So happy I finally found a great used 2010 16' layout 7!! It's in great shape.
I need to get bearings repacked - is it best have that done at local rv shop?
Also need tires as the ORIGINAL ones are still on it! Suggestions welcome!
Can't wait to get to work polishing and stocking her up.

RV shop would charge me $130 to repack wheel bearings and adjust brakes.
My auto mechanic charges me $60 - $70 for the same.
To save trips, I'd find a tire shop that can do the bearings too.

Oh well every so often I'd get the fever and look and I always talked my way into every scamp at the campground. I always planned on making a scamp my "retirement" camper. This go round I've only been looking a month or so with intent to buy. I figured out pretty quick I was not going to find an older mode that didn't need work in my "first" price range lol. So...decided to go with a newer model. My tall kid is thrilled to not bump her head like she did sitting on the sofa in my aliner. I think this will work out much better for us.

This is a second in line success story!

Only issue I have is a very slight door sag. Upon inspection the lower hinge is a little loose - ie loose on the camper. The fellow at scamp suggested I get the new door seal before I consider adjusting the hinges since I have no idea what I'm doing! It def needs better seals

Having always had a camper that had sliding windows I am thrilled with the easy open crank out windows!

I second Glenn's advice. Whatever you do, unless you're very wealthy, don't take the trailer to an RV shop unless absolutely necessary. Anything like wheels, tires, suspension and bearings are things any mechanic can work on.

I had a new axle put on my trailer, and I had a local trailer shop do it. Was quite likely half the price of having one of the RV shops do the same work.

Congratulations! Other than having no bathroom, that is exactly the Scamp I was looking at before deciding a Bigfoot better met my needs. I live in my trailer for stretches of time so lots of space and a bathroom were a requirement for me.

Congrats on your new trailer. I green with the others. A tire shop or auto shop can take care of the bearings. If it should need an axle, a trailer repair can do it.

Thanks for the pics! I am so jealous! Although my , on order, 13' has a bathroom, I like the 16'!!!!! That side table is soooo convenient!

I don't understand this comment. New bearings also have to be packed, so why replace them if they are in good condition? My trailer is 2008 and still runs on original bearings.

If I were buying a used trailer and going to spend the money to have someone repack old bearings, I would install known good new bearings rather than rely on a subjective judgement. It's just what this retired mechanical engineer prefers to do.

Because it saves you the very nasty job of cleaning out the old grease. And the need to make sure that any solvent used is 100% gone before packing.

But then there is the issue of bearing / race seating. Which is to say (as I understand it), that if you replace the bearings, you also need to replace the races.

Pros and cons to either approach as I see it.

Should I tell them how to jack it up? One time I bought trailer tires and afterwards the guy said "I had a hard time finding the sweet spot on your axle" eeeekkkk
