I was returning from taking my son to work yesterday when lo and behold I spot a Scamp 5th wheel going the other way down the street. I speed to the next signal, whip a U turn and speed the direction the trailer was going.......past two cops going the other way ....had heart palpatations.

I see it up ahead, swooping through traffic, I get behind it as it turns left, then it ducks into a side street to make a U turn. I pass it and wave to the older male driver. I whip another U turn and folow the trailer as it turns right and pulls up to the curb at a city park. I jump out of the truck and approch him and say "I'm stalking you...I had to see if you were someone I know from the internet." Turns out I don't know him. We had a wonderful conversation about many things. His name is John and he's a full timer with his two dogs. Has traveled all over the USA and Canada, and is going to continue to do so as long as he can.

He has had some trouble with his Scamp (he bought it new in 2002), it had leaks around the AC and vents from the factory, and the metal that holds the axle literally ripped apart, the welder he had repair it said it was poor quality steel. He has gone through 3 sets of tires, which he felt was excessive and is thinking of going to 14" or 15" with higher capacity tires.

It was a very nice meeting. I told him about fiberglassrv.com, I hope he can stop in sometime!

So if you see a black Ford Ranger following you.....

Hey! You'll never catch me. My turbo'd Jimmy diesel will outrun a Ranger any day of the week. And if you start to get too close the black diesel smoke will sure make you pause and reconsider.

Just kidding, of course. We are the type that usually start off with no particular destination in mind. And we often don't even get where we had in mind to go in the first place.

With all the interesting back roads, places, things and people along the way, the destination just becomes sort of unimportant.

The only regrets I have had while traveling was in a former life when I had a "real job". Many times there were invitations, side trips, back roads, events, etc., that we just couldn't fit in to our 'schedule'. Many of these just came up along the way, and we had to pass.

That is the thing I like about the small lightweight FGRV. I will go just about anywhere our 4WD Jimmy will, and provide us with a place to rest for the night, have lunch or a nap.

Couldn't be any better than that. There's no room for complaint.

DORF
I'll have you know it has 260,000 miles on it and still chugging along. It's on it's third trans tho.

Christy, I doubt he does the computer thing. It sounds like he only recently got a cell phone.

Loren, I hear you on your regrets. "We are the type that usually start off with no particular destination in mind. And we often don't even get where we had in mind to go in the first place. " Sounds wonderful!

Well I met up with John again. We had another happenstance meeting. He turned up at the Quartzsite rally, someone in town told him about "a bunch of those trailers out in the desert" and he came to investigate. I recognized him because of his trailer and dogs. He's still full timing.

I found this original post about meeting him almost three years ago.
It's a small world after all, it's a small world after all, it's a small, small world!

We do get to meet interesting people because of these trailers

Hi: Lizbeth... I have marked my Rand McNally as a caution to expect some crazy reactions to our trailer. I/We will be out there as soon as I/We can get hired on to retirement!!!
