If a dog was a teacher, you would learn things like:

· When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

· Never pass up the opportunity to go for a joyride.

· Allow the experience of fresh air and the wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

· Take naps.

· Stretch before rising.

· Run, romp, and play daily.

· Thrive on attention and let people touch you. Sometimes they are the ones seeking affection, in giving it to you.

· Avoid biting when a simple growl will do.

· On warm days, stop to lie on your back on the grass.

· On hot days, drink lots of water and lie under a shady tree.

· When you're happy, dance around and wag your entire body.

· Delight in the simple joy of a long walk.

· Be loyal.

· Never pretend to be something you're not.

· If what you want lies buried, dig until you find it.

· When someone is having a bad day, be silent, sit close by, and nuzzle them gently.

That's quite nice. I have cats rather than dogs, though, and I'm afraid a cat version of this would not be quite so lovely. It would start with something like, "When your loved ones have left for the day, pee on their things as a subtle show of resentment."

And then when your human slaves return, run to trip them up on the stairs by doing figure 8's around their ankles while purring loudly. As they then lie on the ground after tripping, run off to see if they have any fresh food down for you yet!

But somehow when your human slaves are unhappy or stressed out, you know to come sit on a lap, rub your chin on them and purr their cares away!

If the dog were a teacher, he would be saying here are some practice questions to get you ready for the NDAT (National Dog Achievement Test). Newspapers would be saying that US Dogs are so below other country's dog achievement tests without mentioning that all US dogs take the tests while not all country's test all their dogs.

One guess as to what field my career is in. For what we have done to education in the last few years, I just hope those tests are testing the right things!

Cindy....as retired teachers, my wife and I are concerned about the same things as you are. We also believe that most schools/teachers work very well for those who want them to work. Obviously they don't work very well for those who don't care.

Thanks for that, Donna. I had to send that to all my relatives.

I know one school where the principal allowed a dog to be 'adopted' by the school. She lived there in the office for several years, walked the halls with the principal, etc. It was pretty neat.

My late FIL was in a nursing home with a wonderful resident dog. The dog made the rounds and checked up on everyone. If someone started to wander off, the dog would go tell the nurse.
