Gee... there's the aforementioned "offensive" ad off to the right. I never noticed it. I guess it's because of my built it ignore-crap-that-annoys-me. I'm guessing the Admin can control the type of ad that "adclick" auto-posts. This one is probably not being created by past-browser history but by some generic "show this type of ad on this site" mechanism.
Bottom line, in my book... suck it up kids. It's the internet. Deal with it.

Inappropriate ads on this forum are not just a product of outside concerns.
I sent a PM to a forum member requesting information on a rally and what I received
was a one sentence answer to my question accompanied by a full page of right wing political porno bashing the poor , women, and minorities . I objected and was told where I could place my objection . The pop up ads you are receiving hopefully are less offensive.

Ads are fed by google and we've contacted them regarding having this one blocked. It may take a day before they take action. Thanks for your patience....

I second this. I use adblocker plus and I had to turn it off on the page just to see if there were any ads at all on the page because I didn't see any. It is not perfect but when I switched computers I missed it and installed it ASAP.

Ad companies get paid by both views and clicks, so a targeted ad being more likely to be clicked is advantageous. However the Ad company may also have sold x number of "views" of a specific advertisement thus one can find themselves seeing advertisements totally unrelated to interests or viewing/search history.
Also demographic and "related group" type information can drive ads. People in your zip code, shopping for certain music or products, searching online for certain items/topics, who are on facebook (which may provide your age) may like animated porn or games more than the general public. Thus you get those advertisements.
Even the stores you search in for products or the price point of the specific products you look at can influence what groups you are associated with.
It is honestly sort of scary, I saw a television program that demonstrated by just knowing what store you shop for clothes and groceries. What make of car you drive, favorite alcoholic beverage, what newspaper or magazines you read regularly the person demonstrated the ability to accurately state what your position was on three or four key political issues.
What I want to know is why is it that I keep getting the nasty looking toenail fungus ad and not the animated porno game ads? I'm not into gaming or porno but given a choice....

For advertisers, you are what you click on. Many websites and pretty much every catalog/sales website has tracking engines that make note of what pages you've visited and try to draw inferences from that information as to what kinds of things you might be interested in buying. People who visit sites that suggest an interest in particular types of things, particularly things that suggest you may be making changes in your spending patterns, are more likely to see ads that cater to those types of choices.
Consider cell phones. Last fall I went and looked at cell phone providers -- particularly T-Mobile -- and researched the costs for adding my father and son to our T-Mobile account. I've been seeing cell phone ads, mostly T-Mobile ads, ever since.
Last fall I also looked at porta-pots. For two months I got toilet ads on the web pages I visited.
If your online activity doesn't suggest a specific, more valuable set of potential buying interests, you wind up getting dragnet ads. Dragnet ads are the least expensive category of ad, and that's the kind of ad a lot of these adult-themed websites like to pay for. (There's actually research that suggests that adult ads don't have a preferred demographic. Randomly-selected individuals of either gender are just as likely to click on an adult ad as more carefully targeted individuals of the same sex, so paying extra for targeted ads just doesn't make sense.)
Yes, it can be annoying, but this does give you a tool that allows you to "manage" the ads you see. In my case, I periodically visit the T-Mobile website and look at the phones they have for sale and at their rate plans, so I see their ads a lot. I also visit HostGator, a website hosting service where some of my websites are housed, so I see their ads. Ditto some of the camping outfitters, like Cabella and Sierra Outpost. I often see Amazon ads. (Amazon . . . my world leader in toilet banner ads.)

I just installed Adblock Plus from the Mozilla site, it gets rid of pretty much all ads. There are versions for other browsers as well. Also have Webmail Ad Blocker (for users of yahoo mail or gmail) and Flash block. It's fantastic all the ads get blocked and as a bonus web pages load much faster.

Our fearless administrator Ms Janet has taken care of the problem, at least no more pornie games on my site. Thank you so much!
It's gone... how can we be sure that the nail fungus was an ad or unfortunate "selfie"...hum...now, where can I find the cure...not that I need this...
