Insulating My Lil Snoozy

This is my first project insulating under my Snoozy couch.

http://www.fiberglassrv.com/forums/f...ozy-60313.html

Today, since I was having so much trouble with my knees and feet,
I went out to my Snoozy, cleaned up my previous mess. And then
insulated the cabinets above the sink area. I haven't loaded the pictures
yet so it will be few minutes before I post them here.

NOTE: Wife is spring cleaning the house and preparing for an auction
next month. I will probably be drafted tomorrow to move every
thing. (another reason to hide out in the Snoozy)

Thanks Ed.........LOL
Looks like I had the wrong file pulled up while doing this.
Anyway, gives everyone a quick review of the previous post. lol.
I switched the monologue on the pictures to "quick review pic."

I cut my Reflectix to a 10" length (cabinet height with curve).
There was enough room between the cabinet separation brace
to slide the Reflectix through from the center cabinet to the
right cabinet. I attached 3M doubled sided tape to the upper
corners to hold in place.

Then I repeated the process for the left cabinet area.

The right and left cabinet installed.
I had to do some extra trimming on the left as
the form of the shell begins to narrow.

Then I cut another 10" section from my roll of Reflectix.
Then I trimmed it down to 8" long to fit between the
right and left already installed. Then I used the Reflectix
tape to seal the ends together.

Guess I should have done the cabinet beneath the upper cabinets.
Can't say why I didn't notice that could have been a quick and easy job.
That will be my next project when I can sneak back out to the camper.

I think maybe I distracted myself by moving my one and only curtain
so far from the kitchen to over the couch window. I wanted to reinstall
the 12v light fixture I had dangling in air.

Most of your heat is lost thru your windows, are you getting thermal windows also?

I wonder if having a translucent snoozy is a help or hindrance in the insulation department

"we can see light through the shell"

Thanks Jim.
I intend to have a plan for those "hot" days.
Right now I'm working on keeping the heat 'out.'

Thermal windows may be a consideration later on.

I went back out and installed Reflectix in the vertical cabinets of the
kitchen area. Cut the material 15 1/2" X 13" and used 3M doubled sided
tape in the two top corners of each to hold in place. Seemed to stay on
it's own, but the tape will be assurance of going down the road.

I put my pork-n-bean stash and jar of "instant" coffee back in.
My basket for my DVD's won't fit now, so will be finding it a new home.

I'm surprised to hear this as in a house, the most heat loss is conducted through the ceiling and from outside air intrusion.

When I moved into my home in Bodfish where 20 degrees and lower is not unusual in the winter I had old aluminum frame single pane windows.

I changed out all 8 single pane windows and a sliding glass door with Dual pane, insulated plastic frame windows.

Cut my heating bill by 1/3rd.

I believe it, especially if the attic was already very well insulated and the old windows were drafty.

Some class B rv owners on another forum made some posts recently about keeping their Bs much cooler in summer by putting reflectix on both inside and outside of the windows. I thought that was interesting.

That makes sense as solar gain is important for cooling. For heating, loss through the windows is less an issue.

I've been a member here for a long time. I think most of us with single shell all molded towables would say, if all the insulation was removed from the inside, and the inside shell isn't painted.... we'd think there's not a thick gelcoat.

Looking inside some of the cabinets of my 1988, during bright sun... I see sunlight!

So, don't think you've been short changed on the gelcoat....

You may be right Donna. But I can distinquish the core waffle.
And the websites I've looked at indicate a less than desired gel coat thickness.

I'm not sure what I will do in the future.
I'm writing down some paint designs or possibly a "body wrap."
That sounds sexy doesn't it?.........LOL.

I see light through our Boler's shell even with the insulation! We have light open-cell polyfoam with a thin skin, not the thick-skinned black closed-cell foam rubber of the traditional Ensolite, or aluminized Reflectix.

Information is good. Lack of information is not so good, but misinformation is much worse. Check facts, and apply common sense liberally.
