Interstate 10
After seeing the news tonight about the flooding that took place over the weekend that took out the East bound lanes bridge at Desert Center CA, sure seems it is going to take a while to replace it. Glad no one was killed. Commerce is going to take a hit. It sure looks like a lot of folks that are planning to go to the Q rally in Feb are going to have a long trip, me included. It has always amazed me how quickly the water flows in the desert, and I live in it.

Yeah, the video I saw was amazing Dave. Was there just last week and bone dry. I guess during the monsoon season a disaster is just one major storm away.

I will be headed west past that area early next month, headed to San Diego. I will let people know about what I see.

I don't have access to news at the moment... do I understand the eastbound bridge was destroyed? Is traffic being detoured off the interstate or doubled up on the westbound span?

As of 9am both directions are still closed.
Going south to the I-8 or north to the I-40 are both loooog detours, but right now are the only alternatives. There is also the 62 via 29 Palms, but it's two lanes most of the way, but they may have already closed that to through traffic.
AZ-DOT also has news on this issue on their website.

In 2014 I went thru Desert Center on the way to Quartzite and on the way back home I spent 2 very nice days at Constellation Park in Wickenburg Az. It was a very enjoyable trip and I am thinking about a repeat in 2016 but this morning I see the news and Constellation Park was damaged as well. It's amazing the damage a flood can do. One thing I have learned about flooding is that flood damage can occur when there is no rain in the area. Sunshine and blue sky can give a false sense of security. I was in Utah years ago and it was beautiful with no rain, but heavy rain up in the mountains cased a road washout in the area I was in . Stay safe!

Latest I have heard is CalTrans is checking the west bound bridge and if it looks good will open it to two way traffic in a couple of days. This is important to me as we are headed that way on Aug 10, an hope to no have to detour to Hwy. 8. Also heard that if you go north to Parker there is another road that will bring you back to 10 around Palm Desert area.

That "Other Road" is 95 to 62 and I heard on local news this morning that it is being limited to "Local Traffic Only" due to it being a very narrow 2 lane highway in a number of locations. If it were left open it would get so clogged with traffic that the alternate reroute via I-8 & I-40 would be fast by comparison.

More Updates: May be open to "Limited Traffic" by Friday per Caltrans.

I'm glad it wasn't as far down as the I-40 bridge over the Arkansas River here in OK. When this bridge was taken down by a barge, many people were seriously injured or killed.

Catastrophes and disaster events aside, America is going to have to do something about its crumbling infrastructure.
