Is your TV also your every day driver?

A shiny new Ram 3500 Dually Diesel 4 door (50-60k?) showed up in the company parking lot a week or so ago. I drive past it every morning coming to work in my old Toyota Corolla Wagon. All this while my TV, an old 2003 F-150 (long, I say long ago, paid for), sits at home. I’m thinking that it is probably more reasonable for small trailer owners to get double-duty out of their Tug than it is for behemoth 5er owners.

Mine does double duty which is why I went with only a V6 mid size. I can see where owning two vehicles might pay off over the year in gas money if you have a long commute but if only a short commute of say under 20 miles or so total a day it sure wouldn't pay off to own two vehicles when you take in the cost of maintenance and insurance on both of them.

Bottom line is my newer mid sized V6 truck gets about 17 miles to the gallon in the city while by older Outback 4 banger only got about 19 mile to the gallon in the city.... no brainer financially to go with only one vehicle. I do admit though that the truck doesnt do as well mpg's wise when towing as the Outback did but again once you consider maintains and insurance cost on the second vehicle the difference over the year is not a biggy.

Was pretty easy adjustment getting use to driving a truck in the BIG city as well. Back up camera helps a lot with that.

Mine is, but ideally I'd have a hybrid for around town and a pickup for towing (and other uses.)

We tow with the Safari mini van at the moment. This is my wife's daily driver. But, a Savana 1500 is our intended tow vehicle. It is currently stuck in Ontario, along with the trailer that we usually use.

Different people, different situations. We only have ONE vehicle, a 2005 Dodge Dakota. It's not an issue since we're retired and the Dakota sometimes sits for a week or more without moving. No daily commute. Every day is Saturday.

We have only one vehicle, our 2004 Honda CRV. we get 20+ towing and 30 on the highway and 25 around town, not a city.

It has a manual transmission and has towed our trailers all over North America for 7 years.

My 2003 Honda Odyssey LX with 160,000 miles on it is the most versatile all-in-one do everything vehicle I could buy. In my socioeconomic class I often remember my Mom holding out an entire bag of sweets and saying "ONE!" with a stern voice.

We have two tow vehicles as well, Gail's 2013 Escape Ecoboost with factory tow package (3500# capacity), and my 2001 F150 4.6L that I added a class 3 hitch to and a 7 pin connector to go get our ParkLiner last October (5400# capacity). Until I figure out the 7 pin problem I have with the Escape, the F150 does the trick. Both these cars are used for commuting, the Escape maybe 30 miles/day, the F150 maybe 45 miles/day.

I held onto a 1993 Chevy Blazer S that I bought in January of that year. It now has over a quarter million miles on it and is frankly on its last legs, but when the Burro needs help to get to its next site, the old Blazer now does that job. Otherwise, I blast around town in my Mitsubishi Eclipse Spyder most days. I'm looking at a Honda CRV to possibly give the Blazer an honorable retirement.

We had two vehicles for years but my wife died last year so there was no need for two. Now it's a 2012 Chevy Silverado 4x4. Got the 4x4 this spring because I had to be towed out of my driveway last Dec so I could head south for the winter. The Chevy gets the same towing mpg as did my previous Chrysler minivan and Buick Enclave, both 6 cylinder. The Chevy is a V8 that can run on 4 cylinders when conditions are right.

My Pilot makes a decent daily driver in my current rural setting. A "short" drive is 20 miles, and the Pilot gets acceptable mileage (around 25 mpg) on rural 2-lane highways. They can be gas hogs in city traffic, though. We spent a month in Tulsa last summer, and got only 17 mpg around town.

I use the Pilot occasionally for work-related travel of several hundred miles at a time. It's very comfortable for that. Best thing, though, is my daily "commute": 50 feet across a parking lot!
