Jalousie window question.

What years did 16' scamps have jalousie windows, looking for the years 1996 and newer with jalousie windows?

The raw aluminum type have been gone since long before 1996, but a more modern type of jalousie window has been optional for many years and may soon be the only choice.

So jalousie window is a option on 1996 and newer 16' Scamps?
I don't like the slider windows.

Yes, but I much prefer the sliders myself, Glad they were still available when I got mine!

I am curious. Why are the jalousie windows preferred by some? Is it just the classic looks or is there some functional reasons?

We like Jalousie windows because they fully open where sliders only half open.

As well, jalousies when open generally don't allow rain into the trailer.

Jalousie windows can be left open a small amount, even in the rain. On my 13' Scamp I leave the Jalousie windows open a small amount for air circulation all the time. I looked at a 16' Scamp that had the slider windows and the camper reeked of mold. I think they left the windows close all the time because the didn't want the rain to come in.

The sliders are mechanically simple, and with the addition of maxxair vents they are rainproof and attractive, but the number one reason for sliders is that they will not put your eye out if you walk around the trailer and forget they are open.
I reject the idea that there is a correlation between window type and mold

I agree with Floyd about the danger of protruding windows with jalousies.

When closed I would also say they are not as tight as sliders though their full window, fixed screens generally do a better job.

When we had a trailer with jalousies all around, we never felt the need for air conditioning because we had FULLY opening windows on four sides and always seemed to catch a breeze. Non jalousied windows never open more than half way.

As well most newer fiberglass trailers, possibly because of air conditioning, rarely have opening windows on more than three sides; our Casita 16 only had opening windows on two sides.

Another small feature is that no thief is easily coming thru a jalousied window, though we never worry about problems like that when camping.

Our jalousied trailer was 28 years old and the window mechanisms all worked. I found that impressive.

I wish my radius corner Scamp windows were original jalousies! I'm jealous of those that have them.

Here's hoping that both types remain as options!

We have original style Jalousies on our 2003 16' they are black anodized instead of plain aluminum. They are stock from Scamp. The side dinette window is a bit flexy since it is some 36 inches long. Like 'em that's why we went 350 miles in winter to get her from the seller.

Yes, it's only been the last few years that Scamp has changed to the new jalousie windows. The new windows only open in the center, not the entire window as the old ones did.

So it's a moot point, now, about the jalousie opening more thus allowing more air in than the slider. They are about equal to the sliders. The sliders seal better, so less dust comes in through them.

You are correct about that, but you still can't leave a slider open fully in a gentle rain like a jalousie, a fair trade off I suppose.
