Hi all!

My wife has to buy a new car and we would like it to be an emergency backup tow vehicle for pulling our Trillium 4500 when my Grand Cherokee is not available to tow it.

Would like to hear other folks experience with pulling similar size egg (2000 lb loaded) with a Liberty and what package Liberty(2w or 4wd, engine etc) I should be looking at.

Thanks!

Fred

I tow my 2005 Scamp deluxe (1800 pounds loaded for travel, electric brakes) with a 2004 Jeep Liberty (3.7 liter, 4wd).

I find it to be a very good combination.

And I like the Liberty as "just a car" too.

Thanks for the reply Ron. When I first posted I hadn't noticed the thread on short wheel base Jeeps which also gave me a lot of information to consider. Thanks! - Fred

I have an 06 Liberty Sport. I have towed my 1450# 13 a few times with it, don't even notice it's there.

I have only towed my 17 @ what I am guessing is around 3k lbs, and it did great! It was less of a strain on the Libby than my 13/Element combo.

I like it as a car too, but the milage..

ugh!

oh, mine is a 2wd with the 3.7, auto with class 3 hitch, stock tranny cooler, prodigy brake controller and soona WDH single arm. The Libby does squat a bit with the 17.

The libby has an astounding 5k tow rating when properly equipped.

My neighbor and good friend successfully tows his 1993 19' tandem axle Bigfoot with his Liberty (WITH WDH & sway control of course). He thinks it's a little small for the job, but it works.
