Why didn't anyone have the foresight to plan a January campout? I was walking barefoot on the tide flats on Sunday, in a t-shirt and rolled up jeans.
I do like snow, though, and I hope those of you getting it are able to enjoy it!

While we BC love the fact that oil is still dropping we are not so pleased about the total lack of snow this winter - ski hills and all the businesses that count of the ski industry for their livelihood are hurting again for the second year in a row. Also means that most of us are consuming less gas this winter as their is no point in driving up to the ski hill for the week-end. Not to mention that water shortage fall out that will be sure to follow again this summer as a result.

It topped out at 72 degrees F in Tulsa today. 77 degrees predicted high temp for tomorrow; I'll be wearing short sleeves. TGINIB (thank God I'm not in Boston).

Way up north in Edmonton, Alberta we have been well above freezing for the last 2 weeks and the snow is mostly gone. That being said , they are predicting -25C next week.

How is the snow at Whistler? My daughter, husband, three handsome grandsons are all headed that way from Florida for grandsons to see snow for first time, learn skiing, snowboarding, etc., for a week in a couple of months. You mean...no snow?

We're having our usual central Texas winter: balmy days in the 70s followed by a cold front with temps dropping to somewhere between the 30s - 50s, and this cycle repeats, repeats, repeats!

Worse than last year which wasn't great!!! But better than the 3 local Vancouver mountains for sure. Although last year Whistler did get some nice big late season dumps that were pretty nice - hope the same happens real soon. It rained at Whistler pretty well all of last week-end top to bottom - not good - bare spots everywhere - inside and outside the fences - so rock skis are a must for those who go up. If we get a cold snap which doesnt look like its going to happen anytime soon & no new snow it will be like skiing on a frozen pond.
To give a better picture of the situation, Whistler is still trying to sell discount Edge Cards to attract biz - normally they cut the purchase of those off in late November early December.
The Webcams unfortunately don't tell the whole picture - just how many folks are on the mountain, which as you can see are pretty minimal for this time of year due to the skiing conditions.
Edit to add: John its hard to say if there will be or will not be snow at Whistler in a month or so.... anything can happen. As I said last year we had some real big late season dumps that made up for the early season short fall. I do know the situation is pretty well the same all the way down the west coast - the big ski towns in California are also suffering.
