Trailer: 2006 17 ft Casita Spirit Deluxe

I have a 7' x 16' Wells Cargo trailer. The 16' dimension doesn't include the tongue. I look at pictures of the 17' Casita and it looks as if it would easily fit INSIDE of my Wells Cargo. How long is the body of the 17' Casita?

About 14 feet. These trailers are measured from tongue to bumper. My Scamp 16 is about 13 feet of body, and is 6'8" wide.

From the Casita website, the Casita 17' is also 6'8" wide.

Thanks, Roger. No wonder they look so small.

My Scamp 16 is 6'8" wide.
the Casita 17' is also 6'8" wide.
My Fiber Stream is also 6'8" wide (80").

This seems to be a significant measurement. Isn't there a statutory reason to limit the trailer to this width? It has something to do with running lights, as I recall, but I cannot remember the reference.

The 80" width was for requirement of the clearance lights......don`t know why the trailers used the 80" width though since they could go to 102" overall width and still be legal for the highways with clearance lights and the trio ID lights.......If I remember right, there was a bit of a kerfuffle with the 1960 Pontiacs which were a bit over 80" wide but were exempt from the law requiring clearance lights for that width and the 1961`s were about a inch narrower.....any vehicles/trailers over 80" wide require clearance and trio lamps...Benny

Train tracks are rumored to have been placed at the width of Roman chariot wheels. Perhaps the original septic tank molds were 80" to fit on a truck bed? Who knows! Perhaps that's the width at which full-size cars don't require trailer mirrors to see around the trailer?

The Love Bug II 18' trailer was 7'2" (84") wide, and the Burro 17' widebody was 7'6" wide (88").

More than likely that was a standard size for the axle.
