Just Bought an 85 Burro

:wave
Hi Everyone,
I'm glad to say that I just joined your ranks. My husband and I just bought an 85 Burro 17' widebody. We are very excited. Fiberglass trailers are hard to find in New England. I'm sure I'll have lots of questions, but first I just wanted to say "Hi"!

Hey, Sharyn! Al's right- feel free to ask questions. Somebody here will surely be able to help. Congrats on your ''new'' trailer. Hope it's everything you were dreaming of. We have a couple other Burro wide bodies on the board, I think. What's yours like? Got any pics? When's your first camping trip? Where?

(See, I feel free to ask questions! :laugh)

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for the welcome. To answer your questions, the trailer is in good condition. it's been sitting under a tree for a year so it needs a good wash on the outside. The inside is in excellent condition, just needs new curtains. One of the small sliding windows is cracked, but I'm going to replace it. I'm also going to but new tires since the ones on it now have been sitting on the ground for a year. With all our snow ??? I figured it was better to replace. No pictures yet, but when i have them, I'll post them. Our first trip will be for my birthday in early July. This was my present after all! ( my husband said if I found an "egg" I could have it - I don't think he thought I would actually find one!) I'll keep you updated.
Sharyn

Oh Sharyn, :lol
He probably thought you meant an egg in a carton of 12.
But he will like it too, you just wait and see. :yep

Hi,
He probably did mean regular eggs! I'm sure he'll love it too! Someone has to explain something to me. I understand that I should name my trailer. Does it have to be a male or female name? An actual name or something cute? And do I have to break a bottle of champagne over the trailer when I christen it?
By the way I was at a thrift store this morning and found the cutest (and brand new) set of dishes, cups and bowls for traveling. What do think? Is this perfect for the trailer or what? Must be a sign!

Champagne? Whew, we christened ours when a bottle of root beer spilled inside. As to the name, spend some time with your egg. It will lead you to it's right name...Cute dishes too! Welcome!

Welcome from fellow Burro owner!

Hi, we just purchased an '85 Burro 17' widebody too (June 1st). Yours is the only other pre-California 17-footer that I've heard of. Here's ours:
<img src=http://www.fiberglassrv.com/board/uploads/3ef71c0ec12007.jpg/>
Does yours have a bath, or is it open like ours? Did you get any paperwork or manual with yours? If so, I would love to get a copy. I'm sure we can help each other out as we find out and/or fix things on our respective trailers. We thought ours was near perfect when we bought it, but we're discovering little things that need fixin' as we go along. Such as the running lights were wired to the right blinker and vice versa, the 12 volt system has been entirely disconnected, etc. Obviously previous owner stuff, but it would be nice to know how things were originally.

And yes, I think most folks come up with a name for their trailer. My wife and daughter are still considering several possibilities for ours. Make sure you hit the frame with the champagne bottle, I'm not sure the 'glass could handle it.;)

I like that. poor Buttercup hasn't been christened yet, But I'm sure on the first *real* trip she will get her DP spill as I have yet to go somewhere I didn't spill it. Thank Goodness when I was borrowing a place in Suz's trailer the spill was outside.

Hi,
I guess since I don't really like champagne, root beer would be the way to go. Though it will probably be "christened" first by the dogs welcoming it to their yard.
John - it's great to find another owner. Your's looks great - I wish mine was that clean on the outside. Sorry, no manuals or paperwork. The man we bought it from had it for six years and said that he will write down everything that he remembers so that we have the information. Ours has a toliet,(like a porti potti but bigger) but no shower. It has a small holding tank underneath. The owner also put in a stereo system and baseboard heat. After we pick it up on Friday I'm sure I'll have more info. One question - what size tires does yours have? I want to have new tires when we pick it up so that we can get them on before we drive it home. (home is 130 miles from where the trailer is!) I'm sure we'll be talking more.

Sharyn,

I'm at work right now, but I'll check tonight and let you know the tire size tommorrow AM. I believe they're ST185/80D, but I'm not sure.

Ours looks so clean because it had been recently painted. The outside gelcoat, underneath that paint, might be in terrible shape. One day I might get ambitious enough to check.

Take lots of photos of yours when you get it home, I want to see everything. And I'll be glad to send you lots of photos of ours, assuming you want to see them. Maybe via direct email, so we don't burn up too much of this great site's resources.

John
