Nice looking cord port ya got there! Is it SS? Wondering if you might share where you bought it and also did it install with rivets or nuts/bolts?

Hi Bill,

I looked up your cord cover in SS and it's made by Furrion. It's very attractive and I'd like to do this myself, so thank you again for posting.

Did you just drill out rivets and rivet in your new unit, or did you use SS bolts and fender washers/nuts or nylox? I assume you cleaned up old silicone caulk around area and redid with another product?

I did ask you to share how you did this in my previous post, and so thought perhaps you missed it. If not, then thanks anyway. Unit is up to $52 by the way!

1. drilled off the rivet heads to remove the old plastic inlet.
2. cut existing cord to leave 3 inches outside of camper
3. scrapped silicone off/clean with acetone
4. fiber glassed the old existing rivet holes with razor blade
5. let dry
6. had Leinenkugels snow drift porter
7. repeat step six until glass is cured
8. leveled trailer and made chalk/pencil line for new hole template
9. used rubber gasket from new inlet to mark holes
10. drilled four holes 9/64 holes
11. peeled back rat fur and insulation
12.de-burred holes front and back
13. taped up stainless backing plate inside
14. wired inlet Green to Green/Wht to WHt/ Blk to Blk
15. installed 6-32 stainless socket screw through inlet w/rubber gasket
16. butyl tape around opening
17. went inside trailer and had wife insert screw through 4 holes
18. installed the backing plate I had made over 4 screws
19. tighten Nylock nuts
20. look at finish product
21. repeat step six as required

Cheers! You are nice to write this up for me. So this is a female end socket and you use a portable separate cord with it? I guess I was under impression it was just like what my scamp came with, albeit SS with a screw on cover. Oops. Out of my league, especially the FG work. 4 holes, ok! Not FG in old hole, unless I misunderstood you.

Bill, are you aware of any better covers than our scamp ones come with that would be easier for me? In so much as simply drill out old rivets and put on new port with new rivets? Of course, I'd be looking for one with a screw on or flip down cover. Cheers my friend.

It really is not complicated. If you can use a screw driver, a drill,and shears, you can do this.

Patching the holes is only because I wanted to..the rubber gasket in the new inlet actually covers the old rivet holes. The butyl tape will actually fill the old holes.

As far as cutting the cord and putting the wires into the plug...heck ...look at the colors. The green wire goes into the hole that has a green ring on it...then tighten the screw...the white wire goes into the hole with the white ring around it...then tighten...the black wire goes into the black hole.

See ..I'm not an electrician....but I did stay at a Holliday Inn Express...(sorry a bit of dry humor there).

It really is simple.
