While on a dirt backroad in South Dakota's Black Hills I came upon a fantastic old farmhouse with these parked in the back 40. I talked to the owners (who have a shiny, newer fifth wheel on the dirt by the house) and asked if they'd be interested in selling. They would be THRILLED to sell these. I took down their info, e-mailed them when I got home but haven't heard back (and have misplaced their e-mail...still diding through vacation paperwork).

ANYhooo...here's what they have hidden on their farm - one used as a storage shed, so it must be watertight, right?

Almost all military bases have a trailer rental program as part of the Morale, Welfare & Recreation program. Last year I saw 13' Scamps for rent at Wright-Patterson AFB, Ohio. I wonder if these folks bid on these at a goverment surplus auction. There is an Air Force base at Rapid City, SD (Ellsworth AF. I don't know anyone who would stencil instructions and numbers on a trailer except the military.

Thumbs down

I FOUND the info! I've contacted the owner's daughter (the owner doesn't have internet - too remote) to see if they want to join the board, or if I should just post the info for them. I'll move this to the For Sale thread when I get their approval.

I foresee another project for someone!

Unhappy

Well, if anyone was watching these, take them off your Christmas list. Turns out the adult daughter was misinformed. While her mom would love to sell them off, they belong to family friends and DAD allows them to store them on the place. So...they're not for sale! (But no one's using them! It's so unfair!)

Perhaps an offer to buy, say for a reasonable price, with cash in hand, and a commision to the land owner, (say 20%) might motivate them to contact the owners and get some moved. Those look like they haven't been moved in years, so $500 to $1500 might motivate even the slowest seller. That is how we got ours...
