Looking for a Parkliner

deryk, you mentioned "govt doing to tow vehicles"... Some regs in the works?

Our 1/2 ton chevy van conversion is registered as a regular ol' passenger vehicle. We actually have planned to have this combo of rolling bed (Van) and breakfast (Parkliner) for our adventure rig well into retirement. We see no need to upsize as we've already been there! And our current 38 foot rolling 5 star hotel will be sold once we unplug from the 9 to 5...it is waaaay to big for us to live in once retired.

In the next fuel years as the car manuf are being pushed into makeing cars more and more fuel efficient, means smaller engines and less tow capacity. I like my Rav4, but it wll be replaced eventually with something decent fuel mileage and a tougher suspension... possible be a pickup truck then can keep the extra camping gear and generator and gas tank and all that. A nice 6cyl 4x4

Cari's and my first venture into small trailers and a tow vehicle was a 17ft Aliner will all the trimmings and a 6cyl 4x4 Tacoma. Here is what we found for our set up; The TACO would regularly get ~19city/21hwy unloaded, not too bad i suppose, but put a 2400lb trailer behind and mileage dropped to ~14/16mpg. With our 5.4V8 in the van we get ~17(city)~19hwy with conversion inside, when pulling ~3k we only see ~1mpg difference...better mileage than the smaller vehicle/engine. AND we have Bed/Bath/Kitchenette in the van...something our truck/shell couldn't even dream of providing.

Thom your right, and I should learn that what "they" advertise as fuel mileage I never seem to get. 19 city/26 highway well that never happens lol usually around 19/22 13.5 to 16.5 towing depending on my speed while towing. Im really glad that the ParkLiner is way more aerodynamic then the gypsy vardo I built lol...stand up and get better fuel mileage lol

Actually the EPA sets the procedure for measuring MPG, not the auto manufacturers.

Yeah, well, that will wreck it for sure. I enjoy the nerd challenge of beating the estimated efficiency, and usually can squeak out a couple of MPGs better. Without a trailer behind, anyway.

Yeah...I have the need... the need for speed lol.

Ive learned to slow it down while towing, I try to drive around 60mph... but it amazes me with a trailer in tow I have to pass people who are in their own little world sometimes lol.

I've had to _encourage_ my wife in subtle and loving ways that just because the speed limit is 65 while towing you don't have to go that fast! The difference in our van conversion between ~58/60 at ~19+ and ~65/70 at ~16 is a major reason IMO to slow down and enjoy the view from the Captain's chairs!

On a sillier note...and a need for speed...
At times driving in our passenger car i behave like i'm behind the wheel of a Pagini driving in the Bernese Alps at 180mph+ in my xBox game. My DW actually scolded me the other day when we were driving the Coast Highway as i cut a turn xBox style
