Maiden Voyage 1979 Surfside

After many delays (fixing crank windows, new curtains and upholstery, battery installed, brakes hooked up), we had our first camping trip in our 1979 Surfside to the Fairmont Hot Springs RV Park. We will never go back to "tenting"! Getting up in the morning, being warm and dry, not sleeping on the ground, lots of room, it was heaven! It was really surprising how fiberglass rv people come together. We met three great families from the Calgary area, a family in a 1969 Dolphin, a couple in a Marvel (year unknown) and another family in a 1979 Surfside (pictures attached with their permission). Also there was a Trillium and Surfside sandwiched between two buses (but we know who was having more fun)!!!! We soaked, golfed and toured the area, it was a very relaxing week's vacation! Having never towed anything, we found it a breeze, no bouncing, no swaying, just followed us everywhere! We had the brakes hooked up and felt at ease in the event any emergency arose. No problems with the trailer, we love it!!! Best of all were the fiberglass families we met! The stories they told of their adventures made us want to live our own. Hopefully we'll meet up again. WHAT A BLAST!!!!

Could you tell us about that Marvel trailer? I must have missed it.. hadn't seen/heard of one before.

Glad your first trip was sucessful. You saw so much fiberglass it was almost like you were holding your own rally. And like Gina asked, what is this Marvel trailer of which you speak and show pictures? (I tried looking it up, but Marvel and trailer don't google well together - Marvel comics and movie trailers )

Glad to hear you had a great time first time out!! Cant wait to get my 'bucket' back and head out in a few weeks to the beach for a few days of fun...!! Hardly ever see any FG trailers around this area.... I think i ran into a couple while camping the past yr or two...

The two unfamiliar brands are the Dolphin and the Marvel. Neither the white trailer nor the pop-top two-tone trailer looks like the Dolphin I've seen... so now I don't know what's what (other than the Surfside and Trillium).

The Pop Top is a Compact II.

The white trailer is definately the 1969 Dolphin. The owner purchased it about 6 years ago from the original owner. It was in terrible condition and he's done a good job restoring it. He was hinting on selling it and looking for a motor home.

The "Marvel" or Compact II, is the black and purple trailer. The owner didn't really know much about it but thought it was called a Marvel. We said it looked like a Compact as well. He got it from a neighbour, Freddie, and the name stuck, so the trailer is called Freddie.

The red and black trailer with the '56 Chevy tow vehicle is a Trails West Campster. Note that the mechanism for the pop-top is outside the canvas. On the Compact II, the mechanism is inside the canvas. Also the side windows are rectangular not parallelogram.

I was even MORE confused cause I thought the WHITE one was the Marvel.
