Most unusual thing I take camping

Ok, ok, aside from a unique spouse or pet, what is the most unusual thing which always accompanies you on a camping trip.

You know, the one-of-a-kind thing that you don't think anybody in their right mind (except you) would take camping?

It could be a tool. It could be an unusual food. It could be, well, whatever you think you take along that no one else takes.

Aside from some unmentionable things (and I'll leave this up to your imagination), the most unusual thing Pam and I take is a small, three foot long, garden rake.

I believe the proper name is "bush" rake. The small, not wider than an out-stretched hand, rake comes in handy for quickly sprucing up our campsite.

I started carrying a rake years ago, when I watch the National Forest campground host rake down the campsite next to me. Not only did he pick up a lot of junk ... the recently raked campsite really looked spiffy.

So, from that day forward, we started carrying our own rake ... and will often rake down the campsite, particularly if it's littered with twisty bits of plastic, cigarette butts and old bottle caps.

Another usual thing we carry is a full-sized hand-saw ... why? Well, you just never know when something's gonna need sawing.

So how about you? What do you carry that you think most folks don't?

this has got to take top honors, a spare transmission and clutch.
I used to camp with Willys Station wagon. Not just any ol wagon mind you but a 500 hp sleeper motor used to sit under the hood.
after loseing some synro's from playing to hard. i started to carry an spare tranny. and rebuild the one i just broke. Ahhh
Boys and there toys . BTW willys and trailer weigh in at just over 18000 pounds wish i never sold it ! no glad its gone ! lol

I carry a 6 foot black hose made for an automatic clothes washer. I'm sure you know what I use it for and it's not for the washing machine(Bernice).

I carry one also, but it's only about 3'. Mine is used to connect the gray water outlet spout to the blue tote tank. No adapter needed.

I have one of those rakes and one of the black hoses....:conf Are those unusual? :huh

Don't have an extra transmission though. I bet even Charles doesn't have one of those!

Hi, Well does anyone know the use for this hose???? Please give everyone the answer before I go to bed tonight and try to sleep without knowing.......Hopefully I won`t be the only one up all night wondering about the use......Benny

a 6' hose ? ? I have no idea, but I could make up some uses. :lol
I carry a rake and a broom. for clean up where I put the tent and to sweep it out, but I won't need the tent. but I might need a rake and a broom. :yep use to carry a vacuum. I never used it, but it got borrowed once to clean an AC.
I have a porch. because everytime I camp it rains, and I ALWAYS park where the door opens over the only puddle. so Tom and I made a porch. about 2' deep and 3' wide and 4 inches tall. I fall off steps. :wak. too small for me to stand on and open doors.

The black hose goes through the bath window to connect to the stick to clean the black holding tank. It is easy to put into a plastic grocery bag until it's needed next time. That way I don't have to use my fresh water hose inside the bathroom. I was sure you guys would know that.

Well, If I actually had a bathroom I might have known that.

Someday when my Burro grows up into a 16 foot Casita then it will have a bathroom. Hopefully I will remember that tip......

Hands down, it has to be Lyndon Laney's mailbox and barking dog. :thumb

Close runner-up would be Al V's spare transmission and clutch. :feet

Way down on the list would be Charles' hand saw. I know what he uses it for; to cut down all the trees around his camp site. :steer

Okay, I gotta tell ya, that transmission thing really is nudging close to first. But, there is one other one that isn't on the list. I cannot believe Lyndon didn't enter his window box on the rear of his Scamp 5er. Course, I do like the mail box, a lot, and if you can only have one entry....

I don't know, I haven't decided yet.

Oh man, a whole replacement transmission??

That would come in handy.

Years ago, on move-in day at our daughter's college dorm, the transmission on my old Suburban gave out, waiting our turn to pull into the parking lot.

The officer directing traffic said we were blocking traffic but he wouldn't help, so I had my wife and daughter push the Suburban, while I steered it, into a parking place.

Oh man! We moved our youngest daughter into her dorm yesterday.She didn't even want us to take a camera to get a picture on the front steps. We did it at home with the loaded pick-up.
Real life can give us more ways to embarass our kids than we could ever dream up. Mind you they've given us all a fair share over the years as I'm sure we did to ours, although my mother has been kind enough not to remind me.

I dunno if it's "that" unusual, but I have an obsession with stir fry. I love it. I tried in the trailer but it really smoked it up and stank for a few days. Woks have to be REAL hot. I then took the side burner off of my old gas grill when I tossed it and now use it as an outside wok burner. Anyways, I was camping a few years back and this small kid wanted to know what kind of a weird frying pan I had. I told him and he went to his folks and said I had a pan that walked. Most times while I'm stir-frying my neighbor campers wander over to see whats on the menu.
