Mount Laguna in SoCal has a couple of campgrounds that are completely booked for at least the next couple of weekends. However, they do have non-reserved spots for walk-ins only. What are the chances of showing up on Friday afternoon and getting a spot?

Hope you all don't mind if I give this a bump. We're thinking about trying to get into one of the campgrounds this weekend and it would help if anyone has experience with getting a campsite without reservations, especially in SoCal.

Actually, anything that is easy access off of Interstate 8 fills up pretty quickly on a weekend. When I camp at Cibbets Flat, I take the trailer up on Thursday night and Robert stays there while I come home and go to work on Friday. By the time I get there on Friday night after work, the park (only 23 RV spaces) is full, and a parade of Lookie-Loos drives through hoping to find something.

I highly recommend Oak Grove instead. The easiest way to get there is north on I-15 to Temecula, then south on Hwy-79. If you want a scenic country drive, then take Hwy-67 or Hwy-78 to Ramona, then Hwy-78 to Santa Ysabel, then north on Hwy-79. With 81 campsites, it is never full.

The earlier you arrive on Friday, the better your chances, at any no-reservation site. If you have to work Friday afternoon, and can't arrive until after 5, then the competition is fierce.
