MSRP on 1993 Scamp 16'

State Farm insurance wants the MSRP to provide coverage and I can't find it here or online. I have used NADA to determine current value (go figure) but that doesn't answer the question of what it costs when new. I don't understand why this would matter and have provided the new replacement price for 2016 but they're still asking for the original purchase price.

Any ideas where I might find that?

If they want an answer, either make something up, say...$8400 or call Wayne at Scamp and ask him, and he can take a SWAG at it and say uhhm..... $8400.
Its just a number without meaning!
Call (800) 346-4962 and ask for Wayne
Be prepared to tell him more or less what you have.
Tell him I told you to call.
BTW; Scamp doesn't suggest a retail price ... they state it!

Byron: I wouldn't use them either based on references from other members here, but the insurance industry as well as the county clerks office will, so that's what'll happen if they choose to look for a value.

They TRY to use NADA, but a qualified appraiser can provide a value in the case of a dispute. I do appraisals for Scamps. Of course, a recent purchase price of the particular trailer can be of value as well.

The question here though is MSRP or original purchase price...
Scamp doesn't keep official history very well but Wayne has been there for some time and can either find and old sales record or give a good guess.

Floyd: I called Wayne and he reported that the fire they had in the factory in 2006 destroyed everything including all sales records. They chatted within the office while I was on "shoulder hold" and no one could remember an exact figure for the unit in question from 1993. So, I told him what you said and he agreed that the MSRP would be between $8500 and $10k. I took a screen shot of your reply and sent it to State Farm and they accepted that as close enough.


However, it all may be a moot point since the interior height of the 1993 Scamp seems to be three inches shorter than the late model units being produced now. I'm 6'3" and would have been able to live with an inch or so of difference in interior height, but four inches becomes a deal breaker.


I'm waiting on the prospective seller to measure the head room to substantiate what I believe to be the problem.

Could be wrong, but I thought the 16'ers have always been the same height, about 6'1" or 6'2". Thought it was only the 13'ers that grew up after the fire, no?

Always been officially 6'3" inside, only the 13 changed for 6'0" post fire.
I'm 6'0" and I have a prefire 13 with no problem. You very seldom stand up like you're being measured and no ballroom dancing is allowed!

The NADA link does give $7000 as the base price for a new Scamp 16 in 1993. Since almost everything is optional, $8500 or even $9000 seems like a good guess for a typically-equipped 1993. I was also saying that the BASE price shown included no options. By the time you add a few like a water system, furnace, refrigerator, water heater and an a/c, not to mention shipping, and it will be well into the $8500 number mentioned earlier.

I carry full replacement value for a trailer. In the event of a total write off, I get the trailer replaced new with the options it has on it. Works good for me.

Other than this, most insurance companies will cover to what ever level you wish too, and you pay accordingly, no different that life insurance.

Except that, unlike life insurance, you have to establish some basis for the valuation. I'd assume a full replacement policy is only available for a fairly new trailer, which certainly doesn't apply to the OP. An agreed value policy on an older unit would require an appraisal and perhaps receipts for restoration work done.
