Mushroom Hunting

I looked out and noticed that the lilacs are starting to bud. That means mushroom hunting is on it's way.

Oh, you did not need to post this. As soon as spring rolls around, I want to get out and do this. Kind of hard in Oak Park. I miss it. I sure would like a batch of them. It has been years.

I am sure we will be getting our fair share this year since my husband again is in the no shave/no bathe mode while he sit at the computer and finds a job - again. Just because you have a MBA doesn't guarantee you anything when they can get a Bachelors Degree cheaper. We should have ample trout also. At least he has the Boy Scouts to take up his time. He's at the Wilderness First Aid for Scouts where lip piercing can save a life.

Hi Cyndi B... Here's a pic of the only one I've ever found. We were hiking in a National Park so I just shot it with my digi cam. It could have been "Magic"...I don't know!!!

I love wild mushrooms and have learned how to identify a few!

I don't think I would want to eat that one Alf.. My husband ate a raw morel once and couldn't stand to look at them for a long time. Dumb#$$.

I'd bet my bottom dollar that the mushroom in the picture is a boletus- was it "spongy" on the bottom?
Nearly that whole family is edible, and delicious to those who've acquired the taste.
Of course, if you pick ANYTHING in a National Park you'll get a "bad reaction": kicked out or ticketed!

My husband has this wilderness first aid book. He showed me this picture of in the case you are alone with someone who needs their airway kept open. They demonstrate using saftey pins through the lips. Not something I would want to wake up to. I worked with an ER nurse who said they always kept a roll of suran wrap for sucking chest wounds.
