Musing on the Road

I'm back to editing Musing on the Road, my book on what I learned in 16 years of travel.

I'm writing this post because writing the book has made me a better person, a good enough reason for everyone to write regularly.

It has been clear to me that our extended travels have provided time to reflect on all kinds of subjects. I wrote a chapter on Frustration. Meant to describe the Frustrations I feel when giving advice, particularly to my children.

By the end of the chapter here was my conclusion. Really writing the chapter improved my outlook and the Frustration is gone.

"As in giving money, as in giving advice, as in living a life that doesn’t fully go your way, it’s best to discount the potential frustrations. I do wish that people simply said thank you for the gift of advice or money or whatever is given to them. Regardless of the response, giving is a positive act, the act itself should be enough for the giver. The act of giving, whether advice or money, should not result in frustration."

In my years of giving advice, and sometimes asking for advice, I think, one isn't looking for any other answers then what one hasn't already formulated in there own mind, they just want your validation that they were right all along.
This is why they will argue over advice given if not what they want to hear.

I used to tell people I worked with in a humorous way, I'm just trying to give you the benefit of "My years of experience". I'm sure we could all learn a thing or two from you both.

After writing that chapter I learned I have to give advice as I give gifts, with out any expectation of how it is used, freely given without expectation.

How can we read your Musing on the Road book? Is it posted on the net or do you have a Blog going?

I'd like to read your book. Can't wait till it's finished. I always listen to advice with an open mind. Wether I use it or not is another story. Every situation is different. What might work for one won't work for another. I raised they kids and all three were so different.
I've found your adventures and marriage advice very enlightening Norm.

When the editing is done it will be made available to those interested. My purpose, once started, was the adventure of writing. As I've edited I'm enthralled by my thoughts, by the fun of recalling the results of our RV life. Somehow it's all engaging.

Every other Tuesday we have an open coffee hour in our yard for our RV Park, a chance for visitors and members to share stories of their RV lives. I just love to hear the travels of others. Basically everyone I come in contact with is or has been a traveler. It lets me know there's always more.

I heard something interesting this holiday season about gift giving.
Went something like this:
When a person gives a gift that person gives it for the thrill of the reaction of when the gift is receivedby the other....When a person receives a gift they look at it and think what can I use this gift for in the long term...
2 very different reactions I'm sure.

As I grow older, to give of my advice from experiences, to give help, to give gifts of many kinds, including money, is extremely good for my inner well being. My soul. And to this cause, I actively seek out any opportunity to give. Oh yes, sometimes it's just giving a listening ear! As I grow older, I seem to need for less and less. Tis much better to give!
