My first camper, sorta, sappy nostalgia

This is a pic of my parent's first camper, not mine. It cost $400 used. Mom and Dad threw us 5 kids in the wagon and ventured to California, Florida, Maine, etc. over several of Dad's 3 week Summer vacations. Gasoline was about 20 cents per gallon. Dad loved to drive. We saw dozens of National Parks and city sites. Great memories. I think this pic is from 1963 when I was 12 years old. Sharp eyed car buffs may date the Chevy better than my memory. I remember it was new. Today at 63 I still travel the same highways and visit the same parks with my dear redheaded girl.

Our kids usually fly to their vacation spots.

The Chevy is probably a '62. As I recall the 62's had two lights on each side of the rear and the 63's had three, but the wagons may have been different.

Cool. Dad farmed and always had a heavy-duty pickup around so we had slide in truck campers in my youth. I plugged $400 in 1963 in an inflation calculator and got $3087 in 2014 money. Or just a little less than I paid for my used Scamp last year.

Love it! We traveled all over the US and Canada in a 1968 Dodge Coronet wagon pulling a 1972 Skamper pop-up, canoe on the car and 6 bikes on the trailer. Great times! Thanks for the pic!
