my new Awning

This is a completely manual awning
1. take out of bag and unroll. Make sure you have the 'right side up.
2. slide the plastic insert through the trailer's awning track.
3. put the center pole through the grommit, top off with your rope loop, and walk out approx 6ft and hammer in your stake. attach rope to stake and snugg up slightly (you'll make final adjusments once all poles are up.)
4. install poles the same way on both corners, but angle the rope out diagonally instead of straight out from trailer.
5. Loosen the ropes slightly, and raise the poles until you have them the height you want, then tighten the ropes.
6. Pour a glass of wine, and sit down in the shade!!

Very nice! I had an awning made (by my mom) but haven't gotten a chance to use it yet. It's a light turquoise blue and will look great with my vintage owl lights.
This may be a dumb question - but what kind of knot is best for tying it to the stakes? And are you using regular plastic tent stakes or are they metal?

Thank you for the complements! I cheated on the rope knot and just bought rope tightners/slides from the same awning maker I bought the awning from. The big table came in that red color (got it from WalMart a couple years ago) and the little quickfold tables came from a hardware that was selling matching color Adirondack chairs.

I'm bad with knots... And often use the wrong one... But I would use something like a truckers hitch for tensioning the rope. I have used a taught line hitch, but mainly for securing a dinghy to a dock.

Yes, the lights are cloth (not paper, which are not for outdoor use). Got them at Lowes, but have also seen them at various other stores.
The more I see my trailer set up, the less inclined I am to add decals to it! I might just keep it basic white for a while. I need to wash/wax it for this year and continue to mull over what subtle but awsome thing I can do to the shell

Hard to rivet the double hull of a UHaul roof

Nope, not hard at all. You are only riveting through the outer shell. I used butyl tape under the rail, and stuck it down. Then, I drilled through the outer shell only and put in the rivets. The inerior shell is not even touched. I also sealed the top of the rivets with a dollop of sealant (not sylicone) and ran a bead of the same material along the top edge of rail and the trailer. The hardest hole to drill was the first one, getting past that "first hole in the shell" feeling. After that, I was a riveting demon!
