Need campground in Vegas
Want to spend a night in Vegas while heading further south. Something close to town that doesnt have trailer type/size restrictions - dont want to have to drive to the strip (will take a bus if possible).

Lake Mead Recreational Area is close. It' run by the National Park System. There's 3 campgrounds that I know of on the lake. Prices are good.

Several years ago we stayed at Sam's Town, not on the strip.
It seems back then there were two camping areas there. The one we stayed at was very nice. They had a spot behind the restrooms (punch key combination) that were probably too small for large rigs but fit us very nicely. There were only a few spots back there. From there we walked to the casino where we were able to get a shuttle to the strip.
We stayed there because we were traveling with friends and that was where I could get rooms. Circus Circus was full on the night we wanted.
In the end I think I liked not being at Circus Circus. Could be because of that quiet little spot behind the restrooms.
I do not know if this link is the place we stayed. My info is 550 miles from me so I can't check out for sure the location. Think it was on Boulder. The link shows a cost of $25 a night.

Thanks guys for the info.
I think the Circus Cirus KOA is a about $80 a night! I might be able to find a hotel deal for that!

I can't suggest a campsite, but I can suggest not camping in the desert around Las Vegas. Several years ago I was heading into Las Vegas from the north and decided to pull down a little jeep track and sleep for the night. To my surprise I came upon 3 or 4 Sheriff cars gathered around a body lying on the ground with a sheet over it
I waved and got the heck out of there. I found a less active jeep track down a ways, but it was one creepy night for sleeping!

Red Rock Canyon has a campground, first come first serve and dry. You can use your Golden Age (or whatever it's called now) for half price. Red Rock campground is to the south off hwy 159 and then a nice loop through the Red Rocks is to the north of hwy 159.
You'll have to drive into town if you are looking at going to the strip 'cause there is nothing out there but the CG and Red Rocks.

Everyone has a different idea of "Close" but I had a great time staying at the Valley of Fire State Park, about 50 miles from Vegas. 2 Campgrounds, one with hot showers & some electric sites...

Thanks guys - the Valley of the Fire and Red Rock canyon are on the planned stops list! Any recommended spots south of those that I should not miss while I'm heading further south? No set plan as to where heading - only requirement is to avoid snow :-)

The problem with "campgrounds" (( honestly no such thing in Vegas)) around the Metro Vegas area is, most have been torn down due to the Building Boom a few years back.
I highly suggest staying in one that is affiliated with a Casino, they tend to be a little safer. Love one of Sam's Towns rv parks, but the other one is ifffffffffffy! Though I suppose you would be fine.
There are some truly scary one's on the out skirts of Vegas. We spent a Winter there a few years ago when the town we wanted to spend the winter in was not to our liking. So I explored a lot of them, looking for some where to stay at such late notice. Found a beautiful one, unfortunately it was torn down about 5 years ago to build houses.

Several of the Casinos in LV have RV parks. I've stayed in several over the years and found them both clean and convenient. And I don't gamble.

I saw the Circus Circus people using golf carts to shuttle RV people back and forth.
C C is right on the strip and every time I have gone to LV I would go there for a meal as it is cheep and really good (All U Can Eat Buffet.) and It seams that every time I was there, they caught someone stuffing chicken in their purse.
Call or text the LV Chamber of Commerce - they will have all the info you require.

We stayed at Circus Circus one night about 7 years ago. It is more expensive than some, but we could literally walk to (and thru) all the newer casinos on the strip quite easily. I'm not a Vegas person (nor a gambler), but the variety of structures and decor was interesting.
Circus Circus campground is really a giant parking lot with hookups. The very nice lady at the desk moved us near the pool, where we had a tiny palm tree in front of our parking space, in a postage stamp-sized patch of grass surrounded by curbing... As it was July, it was really nice to be near the pool for our daughter. Coming from weeks of camping in state and national parks, it was quite a jolt....
You can probably get a back-in space for around $50. I suspect the price is high because of the convenience factor, and because if the weather is hot, you will need to run the A/C 24/7 parked on the giant heat island of black asphalt.
