Need help with finding lights for remodel of Das Cave

Hi my friends,

Getting ready to paint my trailer and was looking for lights to put on it and am having a problem. I can't seem to find brake lights and running lights that the covers pop off in the event of a bulb going out! Once I cover the inside with Rat fur, I won't be able to take the light off to change the bulb! Does anyone know where I can get LED lights that when a bulb goes out, I can pop the cover off to replace it? Thanks for any help you might be able to provide! Das Cave is coming along! Can't wait to take her out.

All the best, Monte

I would leave a loop of wire so you will have enough slack to replace the light fixture because sooner or later you will need to. The sockets tend to corrode and LEDs fade over time. I would opt for LEDs with sealed fixtures, but still leaving enough slack to change them out.

Or..

I'm pretty sure that these tail lights in the Scamp store are the same as on my 2015 which do have lens that pop off. I would have to take a closer look at the running lights.

Most LED lights do not use separate bulbs, the LED elements are moulded right into the sealed unit and therefore the lens in not removable. This sealed construction makes them much more reliable and longer life that any light with a replaceable bulb where you can have corrosion issues at the bulb contacts

leds

I agree with Ian I replaced all my interior lights with leds no more heat or having to fool around with bulbs. I was able to even take out the dumb fl. light in our scamper and replace it with a large 2 light leds I can now flood the trailer with light if I want.

I found plenty of extra wire behind the old lights also so you may find this on your tail lights also.

good luck

Hello, Monte, cute trailer! I love the name. I hope it's not as dark inside as the name suggests! (pitch black and rock hard!)

leds

monte my interior lights have been about 6ms I don't see them going out anytime soon. they have a cluster of small lights so I think if one goes out no big deal and they are not expensive.

I am interested with your paint job can you post pictures when you get it done?

thanks

bob

I just ordered these last night. I really like the looks of them and that they use separate LED's for turn and brake.

Bob, I am looking at different paints right now! My friends think I should go with two tone but i think I'm going all white! My CRV is white and where I go diving, it's all dirt road! Are there any paints I should look at? This is my first time painting a trailer!
Thanks

Monte, Amazon price is a little less and includes shipping.
They are running and brake lights.
Remember, you will also need a license plate light.

These are running/ Brake, signal and reflector as well all in one.
My clearance lights are Bargman duals with T10 bulbs:

I have removed the colored lenses, added red and yellow LED T10 bulbs and replaced the colored lenses with clear lenses for a cleaner look.

"Have you guy found that the LED has lasted as long as they say they will? Monte"

1. LEDs haven't been around for the 20 years they sometimes say they will last, so it's hard to say if they will.

2. MOST of our LEDs are doing very well; occasionally we have one that just stops...also, we had nearly all our bulbs replaced with those coil ones years ago (not LED); then the LEDs came out. Now we're waiting for the chandelier base bulbs for our ceiling fans, so just because we have a low-wattage-use bulb or an LED doesn't mean we won't ever replace it.

3. Some of the earlier LED lights that were from GE and available for so cheap, like at Dollar Stores or big box hardware stores for 2/$1, did burn out fairly fast--faster than an incandescent. Kind of a loss-leader or introductory price; our local power company offers in-home power-use inspections for free and include 18 new LED bulbs that are quite nice--we've had two of those inspections and now have all LEDs except in the ceiling fans where we still have little coil bulbs. (Darn tiny bases!). they said in a year or two the little base LED "candle" bulbs should be available.

ALL our trailer lights inside are new LEDs; we're very satisfied with them. MOST of our car and outside trailer lights are LEDs, too, though as some have pointed out, since they run on the tow's power, what diff?

BEST

Kai, you might want to check Home Depot. The last time I was looking for LED bulbs, I swear I saw ones with the candelabra style base.

Alex, YES, of course, you're right. We bought a couple of them (needed 10)--it's just that so far they are still quite expensive; I'm waiting for mass production to bring that cost down some--or for the local power company to let us have another home visit with some free one.

How could I have forgotten? Sometimes I'm still shopping for something that I bought two months ago!

Thanks.

BEST

To help prevent corrosion on the metal light sockets make it an annual chore to clean them and brush some dielectric grease onto the metal sockets. You can buy small tubes of it at any auto parts or hardware store.
