Dave, your reasoning is much like mine. I too find there is more than enough storage in the trailer, and I don't have the storage box. However, we do keep some stuff in the Pilot, things that we want at hand when away from the trailer, PLUS I like the option of taking a canoe along too, something that would not fit on the roof of a pickup without extending way forward.

I think with a quad cab, I could fit what gear I would want in the vehicle either in the back seat with our dog, or in small boxes strategically sized and mounted in the bed. Still, without doing a rack on the trailer, no canoe could be carried. I have considered an inflatable one. There are some good ones out there that would meet most of our needs and uses, except that I would not want to do a multi-day trip with one.

Another reason to delay my purchase of a new 5.0 is that my FJ is still quite new and it would be a shame to have to sell it and buy a truck. ... unless there is some way to put a fifth wheel hitch on the roof of the FJ??

I would be waiting quite a while myself, as though my Pilot is well over 5 years old, it is still in great condition. The pickup I would need for the 5.0 would be the one to replace my F250, and that won't likely happen until I retire in 4 years.

Just bought all the fabric I need (WANT) for this new 5.0. Plan ahead, spread the expenses out for a year!

Donna,

Congratulations and well deserved! What a great year you are going to have! Amost wish we had a year but at 8 weeks and counting for our new 21 we can barely stand it. Reace and Tammy are awesome (having just got back from the factory) and we know it will be a beautiful rig.

Thanks all for your support and good wishes. It's hard to believe Reace posted the info on 8-31-13 and seven days later I'm on the build list.... and right now, the new 5.0 is still on paper . It's going to be at least a year and that's okay. A whole year to plot, plan and help run up the online buying businesses. I bought the upholstery fabric yesterday and today I've been crusin' 5th wheel hitch pages. Fortunately, I HAVE a trailer and it's perfect for the way I use it. Besides, I've already got reservations in (or am planning) about six weeks of camping in the Scamp during 2014.

yes, that is the downside of having to sell one to buy another, the lead time between units, last year's vacant time was only 3 weeks, this time it is closer to 5 months, in the prime time. I'm already looking for cg's that are open year round.. Donna, something else to consider, Escape prices are in Canadian $$ and it fluctuates, if you are savvy enough and close enough, it would be worth a trip to make a payment when the US $$ are high, could save you anywhere from 5-10%- is $1500-$3000 over the next year.

Right now the rate is: 1 US to 1.04 Canadian which for what I'm looking to spend is $1,240
