That's a pretty cool design.

Well designed! I saw an actual conversion of a VW Bug once - passenger seat was removed for a storage bin and bed (the bed extended into back). Very crude in comparison but it did cover all the bases, including a little porto-potty.

It's Fred Flinstone's RV! The handlebars weirded me out then I realized it was a bike! No more worries about fuel economy, or finding time for exercise.

It is a cool design but I cant figure out if it is a bike as suggested or a 3 wheel car as it says it is a at the top. Also cant figure out where the 2nd person is suppose to sit or sleep

Looks like it has a 50cc two-stroke gas engine. For what it's worth, I think my walk-behind lawn mower has a 160cc engine, so I would guess the thing gets good gas mileage. I guess they went with the handlebar steering design since the driver appears to straddle the column.

If you really want foot power power, try Kevin Cyr's Camper Bike. Or if you prefer walking versus pedaling, maybe the Camper Kart is for you.

I was wondering the same thing; another article says it is a one-person camper based on the Piaggio APE 50 as its platform.

Both pages mention a fridge, where?. Also, what is the seat made of? Cardboard? Lastly, why all the wood? It's gota be cheaper and easier to use fibreglass.

Great concept though. It would be fun, for one person to tour around in.

If you could find a Nash (car) they advertised that the seats made into a bed. One guy I worked with years ago said he and his wife went on their honeymoon in a Nash.

The APE50 is available with either a gas or diesel engine (60-70 mpg) and a top speed of about 40 mph.

Interesting concept!

Are there any pics somewhere of one that's actually been built?

I think the 'Buffalino' is pure vapour-ware, showing how good computer graphics are these days.

But one German trailer/motorhome manufacturer, Dethleffs, has made a real prototype (I think in a Skunk Works sorta way) on a Piaggio Ape:

Piaggio Ape Moca camper

And here is a nice extendable Ape homebuild

If you want to get an idea of the size of an Ape, the attached photo helps!
