New mod for your fiberglass RV

Just watch your first step.

Does anyone know about the trail that uses hydraulics to lower a trailer to the ground? It looks like a reg trailer but when you get where you are going you lower the trailer to the ground and the wheels would go into the trailer in a cabinet. So it would look like a RV without wheels when lowered.
I first saw this at a Home Depot. They had some people selling sun rooms out front. I asked how they moved it and the guy told me the trailer was hyd. The wheels (when lowered) went inside a box on the inside of the sun room. I always thought this would be a kool idea on a rv. Anyone have any info on such a animal?

Have never seen such a thing. I have to question why someone would want this. It's more work setting up/tearing down at a campground; closer to dampness on the ground; bugs have a larger area to penetrate just to mention a few. Can someone explain the benefits that I, Debbie Downer, can't see?

Lowering or raising hydraulically would be fairly simple. Look at those low rider cars that have hydraulics installed to lower them or make them hop. With the sun room display, or other similar set ups there probably is no movable suspension when in the raised position. Many commercial trucks and trailers now use air bag suspension which can be lowered to make unloading or loading easier. City buses use a similar set up to lower the bus for easier entrance and exit. The air bag suspension does give you flex for a better ride.

I guess your kool and mine are not the same and maybe for good reason. I see this being something I would want to look into more.
As far as more time in setting up and down, I say not. As far as bugs having more area to do the things that bugs do, ya I guess so. But who said the whole thing has to sit on the ground. I wouldn't want that. But to each their own.
I know if I could lower it I could get it in the garage. I could also have less drag with driving. But this is just a thought.

So the real reason is: A)To get into the garage and To reduce wind resistance.

If ya gotta take the wheels off anyway, why not just take the wheels off the Boler and put on smaller wheels so you can roll it into the garage.

Lowering it isn't going to add enough MPGs to make up for the extra weight of the mechanism, not to mention the costs.

Jus' Bein' Practical I guess.....

Lol, Ya sure what ever. Once again, to each his own. Either follow or lead I say. Why would you take the wheels off? That is what the hydraulics is for!

My grandson built himself an ice fishing shack in High School Shop class. Cost him about $500 including the woodstove. The whole thing transports easy peasy on the back of a basic half ton truck and then sits on the ice all winter. Seats six, each with their own 'hole' to fish through. Works just fine.

I wonder what it would put a 13' or 16' price at? Most of the vehicles using the hydraulics are commercial vehicles for a better ride, or to ease loading and unloading. It may be cool, but somewhat impractical for a small fiberglass camper. Regardless, it is a moot point. For those who see cool and like it, may be able to develop a reasonably priced application for our little group. No reason to stifle imagination.

Lots of things cost a arm and leg but as time went by the price came down. Thumb drives, calculator, sugar and soup, vcr dvd and mp3 players,HDMI and Ethernet cables, computers, ect ect ect.
Some things cost more like health insurance and gas, food!
Not only is hydraulics used to move weight, so is ele. Ele motors are fairly cheap.

This would be one of those things that would
fit perfectly in the thread "If money was no object!"....LOL

One thing lifting up above the trees, one could improve the
view, and have more access to the sun for solar panels.......LOL

But that first step out the door in the middle of the
night for a pottie break...........oh my.

That's a good thought. I hadn't thought of that.
Being unable to climb a tree stand, that would
work for me...........LOL

Looks like someone beat us to it.........

Setup in video: Kinda silly. Made for fun (not use) since the scissor jack looks to be taking up the entire interior space of the trailer.

Lowering RVs: It's to make them easier to get into and out of combined with an auto-leveling. For someone with mobility problems, having a big RV with the floor a good 4 4-5 feet off the ground, having the RV lower down to eliminate 3 or 4 steps is a big help to them -- possibly making it actually possible for them to do it.

Most of the fiberglass trailers sit so low already that there isn't much point. Someone with mobility problems can probably take that little half-step up without much problem.

I like! Replace the hand crank with a 12 volt motor and you have it. Not a bad price to replace everything below the FG.

I could see a point to adjusting the height if it could drive at different heights. Normal height for going down good paved roads with less wind resistance, some macho ground clearance for the FS roads, then flip down levelers and lower to nice step height someplace deep in the boondocks.
