New Tractor...

:wave
Well It's not a John Deere, but i bet you will be happy with it anyways
When you tow with that, your egg will probably not even influence the fuel mileage. Congratulations

All grown up!

Phil, looks like your old truck ate its Wheaties and grew up into one major tow vehicle!

NICE! Very Nice!

Congratulations!

very nice truck

I am going to replace a truck this fall myself. If that is the diesel your going to love it. The DRW setup will also tow very, very well.

I have a 20' goosneck utility trailer I use for work and know the DRW would help with that as well.

I noticed you got 4 wheel drive and for sure that is a must. I got my F-350 SRW diesel stuck out in the field this spring. What a pain will not let that happen again.

Do the maintance and your won't have a problem

Pullin' with a Ford

We tow our 17' Casita with a LB extended cab F250 diesel which we had before be bought the Casita. They make a 'dream team' in all the conditions we have been in so far. I like your choice.... & I think you will too.

thanks-

for the comments- it was a must do thing unfortunately. that is an 01 power stroke but it sure aint new.....it has 128K hiway miles:O and was used by a tire dealer in Utah. I bought an 18 month extended warranty, but now i'm broke:crazy-ii
Jon Dresbach and Bud Justen were towing with powerstrokes at the national rally and i sure was envious!!!!
Ches, i don't know what happened to my first post and missed your reply??????? Hope i didn't offend Charles.
Dena- I drove alot of company trucks like this...you know the ford LB4WD's need a 40 acre field to turn around!!!!!
Ginny- I have been trying to find a good pic of your prospective trailer but no joy- please post pix when you take delivery. You know I had a thing for your van..... still the best tow vehicle on the forum IMO. Actually I always dreamed about getting a E250 4x4 (ambulance/sportsmobile chassis)....but I'll keep the dually to keep from changing the red stripes on the trailer to green;)

Nice truck

Another diesel, excellent! You have a proven motor, should give you years of service. My miliage on my Dodge/Cummins goes from 20.5 hwy not towing to 17.75 towing, yours will probably be much the same. Auto or manual?

Note to self: buy bigger tow vehicle so my Suburban won't be out-powered by Phil.

Man, Phil, you can put a whole bunch of motorcycles up there in that bed ... of course, you already knew that. :)

Yes, I'm jealous.

lost post

Charles- I'd say you have more actual horsepower from that Suburban.....the original lost post was entitled "The Chas Watts School of Overkill";)
They are offering Excursions with the diesels now if you decide to break ranks with Chevy:L

I had to buy used of course- specs on the truck are 2001 7.3 diesel power stroke with auto and 3.73 diffs....it was a commercial truck and meticulously maintained. Sprung for a 18 month extended warranty to CMA anyway. The new 'strokes are 6.0 with better specs but I'd wait a year or two to see how they hold up.

nice truck

Nice truck Phil. We're in the market for a 2003 F250 XLT crew with a gas engine, the Triton V8. For the additional 6000.00 the dealers want for a diesel I couldn't justify the economy of a diesel paying back the 6000.00 in fuel over the life of the truck.

Any suggestions? Am I on the right track, or is the diesel pull power worth it?

We currently have an 95 F150 supercab long box w/302

I love the Fords, but the Dodge has a great warranty.

diesel

About the cost difference diesel/gas well I would go with the diesel. The engines is stronger and the pulling power is awsome. You will also have a truck that is worth much more as a trade.

Go look at any of the web sites or ebay and you will see same year model trucks and the gas have really taken a hit. For good reason as well at 120,000 the diesel is at about 1/3 engine life while the gasser is about shot.

The operational cost are big time and really big time towing. The best overall value in a truck is a used diesel in my opinion. I have one setting out on my lot has 350,000 on it and I would drive it to either coast with an oil, fuel, and air filter change tonight.

Go for the diesel either truck will give you great service the Dodge or Ford. One other small issue is transmission now most people don't want to hear this but I have never known anyone to have a problem towing on a standard trans. but have heard story after story of problems with automatics. The exception here may be the Cummings/Allison match that Dodge has.

Just food for thought.

NICE RIG !

Nice rig.....you will enjoy it I am sure......

A neighbor down the road has a used tractor ( I believe that's what you called your new rig) and it's red like yours and I think it could pull an egg OK....(not very fast though) :reye2

only asking $8,200.00 :lol

i got lucky

Mike T:
I got a great deal actually- knew the salesman and busted on em for a week also. under 20K and 7 in trade for the ranger(with probs), plus a chunka change for the warranty. If I were buying new I don't know if I could buck up for the extra 6 grand. If you do diesel, i would suggest going with the older 7.3 if possible as the new stroker is an unknown...even the ford service mgr whispered that I shouldn't get the first one, a few had been thru the shop. I trust him too- he is another Ducati owner and we ride. Real cozy huh??:)

I also have a lawyer pal and a cop pal. :laugh :laugh

>>School of Overkill

No RV'er has ever said they regretted having "too big" a tow vehicle.;)

Besides, I enjoy knowing that I could pull any travel trailer in the campground, but choose to pull a tiny molded fiberglass rig!

Phil ... you can use my line, when someone mentions the mismatch ... tell them "My truck pulls the tiny trailer great on the straight aways, but lugs down on the hills."
