Pete we had a fabulous deal on our Verizon Cell. We were extended to unlimited call and text minutes to the USA while in Canada for an additional $12 a month. It also allows 1000 inches of Canadian calls a month.

We typically sat in front of a Cap center and/or library and had unlimited data minutes. Buying a separate data plan was too expensive though sending and receiving emails was not too expensive.

Very true and over the years it seems to continue to increase. Flights are no different, 2 years ago i flew to Europe for a two week ski trip and those flights were about $300 more than flying to Newfoundland which is in my own country.

Its to bad. Keep traveling and be safe

Greg,

I love comments from people who have lived there; it's really an opportunity to learn more. We are now literally in the day dream mode thinking about this spring's visit. I check the Fogo weather daily and for a good part of this winter it's been similar to Hampton, NH.

By the way where is your home town in Newfoundland? We've been to virtually every town except Harbour Breton vicinity and some small islands.

Originally a prairie boy, I lived in Newfoundland for three years in the 1990's while attending grad school. It was a wonderful place to live, with its natural beauty and super friendly people. We had 3 young kids at the time and it was a great place to raise a family. We were sad to leave, but do look forward to future trips back to visit and explore more of this beautiful place.

We now live in Alberta and frequently encounter people who have moved here from Newfoundland in order to work. A large number of those Newfoundland expats tell us that they hope to move back to Newfoundland at some time in the future.

p.s. When we did move to Newfoundland, we learned that many Newfoundlander's consider the term "Newfie" to be offensive (others don't) and so we made a conscious decision not to use that term in the future.

When I was a kid, in Ontario, I had no idea what a Newfie was, but we used the term in jokes that may just as well have used other racist terms. I was young and stupid then. I no longer use that word.
