Let’s Dance
I am so old that the Top 40 of my youth includes new songs by Elvis, Perry Como and The Carpenters: “When I was young I’d listen to the radio, waiting for my favourite song. When it played, I’d sing along.”
I recalled [b]70s pop as more upbeat than Stevie Wonder’s “So boogie on reggae woman. What is wrong with you? Boogie on reggae woman. What you tryin’ to do?” I believe she is dancing, as you have advised her to do.
And to end the [b]70s on an upbeat, here’s Marianne Faithfull’s sweet tune. “Lose your father, your husband, your mother, your children. What are you dying for ? It’s not my reality. It’s just an old war, not even a cold war. Don’t say it in Russian, don’t say it in German. Say it in broken English. Say it in broken English.”
Ya the good old 70s. I think my daughter enjoyed the pop music of the day in late 70s.

Roger H.,
Do you remember Neisner Brothers Dime Store in Sioux City? (Not sure about the spelling)
I seem to recall that there was a store named that or something similar but, sorry, I don't remember the store itself.

From the "Radio Hall of Fame" website:

For all of his fame, many of Wolfman Jack’s fans had never seen him until 1973, when he appeared in George Lucas’ hit film American Graffiti and began an eight-year stint as host of NBC-TV’s Midnight Special.

And John Records Landecker who is still on the radio in Chicago, but plays "classic hits and true oldies."

Growing up in a small city in the 70s, Portland Oregon, there was only ONE true fm rock station. KGON ("KGON Sux, but it's all we got"). 92.3 FM. They sponsored a concert series called Catch a Rising Star. I saw so many bands that now charge bookoo bucks for 92 cents.

I swear the same DJs are still on it, but now it's classic rock. (They probably have the same records too...)

I hear they remodeled the control room to allow wheelchair access and the vending machines now have a geritol slot.

Marty Party anyone?

I have a tradition with any new car I get.. my #1 FM preset is always set to 92.3. Even here in So. Cal. Even if there is no 92.3 station in the area..Cruise into PLand, push a button... yep, I am home.

I thought it was KISN 910 on the am dial, with Pat Pattie that was favorite rock station. Maybe that was earlier.

KISN was AM pop. KGON came in as AOR. Then only dweebs listened to KISN.

Remember being able to walk by the KISN control room on Burnside? All glass front at street level and you could watch the DJs "Spin".

We got a new one now Gina! Mark Lindsey (of Paul Revere and the Raiders) has just opened a restaurant and does the DJ thing on Saturday night from a control room in his restaurant (106.7 FM 60s-70s rock). It's on 40th & Sandy Blvd. AND they're serving Yaws hamburgers!!!!

Talk about a walk back in time!!

My grandparents were near the "Busy Bee Ice cream parlor in Buffalo. At Easter they sold huge solid chocolate ducks and rabbits. Yum. I loved Easter.

How about the Merry Go Round on the truck that came around once a week.

Tarring the street was a treat... Anyone chew tar?

Roller skates with wood wheels, and a metal box to carry them in. I still have mine.

Yo Yo's, Slinkys and Pez.

Wow. I remember spending Sat nights in College listening to da Wolfman. Then Dr. Demento. I'm so warped, I taught my kids the fish head song.

WWVA Wheeling West virginia on the shortwave on the skip with earphones under the covers.
Icecream man came in a horse drawn wagon like the milkman and the icecream was in tubs with ice crystals in it.
Cutting the cream off the top of the milk bottle in the winter,
The coal man came to the house and poured coal into a room in the basement.
Octopus furnace that took up the whole basement.
That meant stoking the fire and ROCKING the grate to take out the ash.
