On Prairie Home Companion - THIS SATURDAY!

Woot! My step daughter Alex's group, Mountain Man, is going to be on the Prairie Home Companion this coming Saturday night (6 October)! The gals are staying at the house this week while they perform here in the cities and it's such fun to go into the house and here them practicing whilst sitting on the front porch.

As they say, "Check you local listings for time!"

Uh... it's public RADIO! (Though they have been on PBS now and then.) And... thanks! I just went into the house, and Alex was up in her room practicing her guitar. Heaven!

You're right I misspoke. Best show on radio. I have seen them occassionally on TV specials. I saw not too long ago where the guy who made all those wonderful sound effects passed away.

Yup, Tom Keith (aka. Jim Ed Poole) passed away earlier this year. He started out with Garrison back in the 70's when they had the morning show together on MPR. Dorothy picked up a CD of Tom at the State Fair this year. We're saving it for the next long road trip.

Thumbs up

Loved Tom on the Morning Show as well.
And I'll be sure to tune in as well.

Fusedlight, thanks for the heads-ups, I got to hear some of the program. Mountain Man was great! Very Talented young women. Great Sound. Best of three-part vocal harmonies for sure, as the write up on a NPR article wrote,
Quote: Onstage, the three women stand in a tight semicircle — Meath, on the left, is facing Sarle. Sauser-Monnig stands in the middle, or sometimes sits on a stool to play the guitar. Their live show is as pure as their recordings — three voices either a cappella or accompanied by a single guitar.

"Honey Bee" is a quick a cappella tune akin to a hymn. Melodic counterpoint is nonexistent, and the three voices sit on top of each other in pastoral, old-time-sounding harmonies that ring with a certain twang. The absence of accompaniment makes the chanted, plying chorus sound siren-like: "Let us sing a song to thee / Oh, my sweet honey bee." :UnQuote

So true, very siren-like, just great.

I went to school with Gary Keilor (now Garrison) from 1st through 12th grade. There were only about 12 or 13 kids in the grades back then at Benson school so knew him quite well. He lived down the road about 6 blocks from me.
I remember him as a shy, nice quiet kid, and a good student.
He sure did well for himself!
