Oregon Inlet CG @ Cape Hatteras NS now open year round
Cindy and I made an overnighter (motel) to the NC Outer Banks this past weekend and were surprised to see at least a dozen campers (including a Parkliner!!!) in the Oregon Inlet campground. Previously, all four public campgrounds on the National Seashore closed from the end of November until March or April but it looks like this one is now open year round. It also appears the number of sites with electric and water hookups here has been expanded to nearly fifty now. $28/night w/o hookups and $35 with w&e.
There's no mention of this change on the CAHA NPS website but I checked recreation.gov and found that reservations at Oregon Inlet would be accepted for any date within the window. Cape Point, Frisco and Ocracoke are still closed seasonally. The hookups don't matter to us one way or the other but having this campground available when we catch one of those fairly common warm spells in Jan, Feb or March is a game changer for those of us who live within a few hour's drive.
As an aside, we took the ferry over to Ocracoke and that entire island is still reeling from the effects of Dorian.
