Our Scamp is totaled
Coming home from a 19 day wonderful camping trip we were rear ended one hour from home. Sitting at a red light in a small town a box truck hit us. Pushed our trek bikes and spare tire into the bed area. Just a short description of the trailer, frame is bent, shell is crushed, all cabinets on curb side are pushed forward and cracked, back window broken out.
After all our information was passed around I asked the police can I tow this home? He grab the bikes and said they are not going anywhere and sent us on our way. This all happened June 30th and we are still waiting for this all to be settled. Our 2013 16 Scamp Deluxe was 5 days short of being a year old. Guess we will be making another trip to Minn. in the spring.

Why did the police keep the bikes? Looking at the pictures, did the wheels on the bikes block the tail lights?

Sorry police did not keep the bikes he just pulled on them to see if it was safe to travel. The red light was the 3rd block that we were stopped at. The truck stopped at the first two I guess he thought two was enough.

Heart felt sadness from all on the site, I'm sure. It's a situation none of us want to consider. Certainly wishing a happy conclusion.

Good that nobody got hurt. Just consider that the Scamp actually protected your vehicle, unless the TV hitch was driven in. Check it out. Also, look at some of the restoration projects described on this site. This may not be much worse than some of the roofs caved in from snow overload.
But, if the insurance pays enough, get a new one.

So glad everybody is ok. At least it was at the end of your trip and you weren't stranded somewhere far from home. Not that that's much consolation

Get a repair estimate from Scamp. If it isn't prohibitive, and if insurance totals it out, ask if you can keep it... then get it repaired. Then get a salvage title. Just a thought.
Be SURE to have the hitch receiver inspected on your tug! This may have torn the steel on the underside. I had this happen to my Mountaineer in a very mild rear-end collision that left almost no visible damage on the trailer! You want to catch this now so insurance can cover repairs if necessary. In my case, I did not find out until later, but I had a good welder strengthen the receiver mounts for a couple hundred dollars.

Living 1051 miles from the Scamp factory them fixing was not an option. Kent and Micah the owners at Scamp wrote the estimate for our insurance company. Needing a new shell top and bottom plus frame, plus broken oak cabinets a bit to much to fix. Oh the car and hitch were checked and all is good with that. Being upset and mad at this situation I want a new Scamp To start fresh again.
