I meant no blanket criticism of all large rigs, I have seen some that appeal. Those old 70's GMC motorhomes, larger airstream trailers, and I saw a Airstream 310 motorhome this weekend that was MASSIVE and I thought it was REALLY cool. And your point about seasonal trips and staying put there half a year does make the more "home" like rigs sound more reasonable. And my McMansion comment was in no way meant as a dig at wealthy or anything. Got no problem with people being wealthy, hope to be there myself someday. Just saying even the owner of an expensive big motorhome might be "homeless" with what's happened with the real estate bust. Lot's of people bought loans on huge properties they shouldn't have, but everyone was doing it, the banks encouraged it, may have even got an extra big mortgage to make it easy to buy a $75k rv and then, boom! Some interest rates shift or you loose that big income job you had to pay those massive payments and your out on your keaster and you have to live in your giant RV at a truckstop. Stange times for sure.

RE Wal*Mart overnighting - There is a Yahoo! group that advocates for it.

walmartrving : WalMart RVing

They DO have a "code" that they suggest, ALWAYS ask permission, ALWAYS say thank you, and NEVER abuse the privelage.

They ALSO maintain a database of US Wal*Marts that allow ##AND## those who do NOT allow overnight parking. (They are vehement that it is NOT "camping"). They also get into some... ahem... "heated" discussions on the topic. But, if nothing else, the database is cool.

Well said except the part about the trucks being made in America, The new Ram's formerly known as Dodge Ram's are now made in Mexico, at least the big ones are, maybe not the 1/2 tons.

I stayed in the dirt overflow lot behind a Loves truck stop outside Bakersfield the other night. The main truck parking was darn full. There was a few other trucks around, but with ear plugs it was pleasant and restful. Woke to prairy dogs playing under the scamp.

Unfortunately they do! Walmart started the park-camp to allow sleepy rv's to get off the road and get a few hours rest. But of course cheap people abuse the perk. And vacation at Walmart.......................... It's ridiculous!

If we use the perk of pulling in to get off the road to a safe place as it was intended to start with, then there is nothing wrong with it.

But pulling in, setting up camp, is just wrong!
