Now, in a sun lit room, you aren't gonna be impressed with the "always on" mode ... but once it's dark and your eyes adjust to the darkness ... you'll be surprized at how much light the "always on" mode puts out.

Hey, don't forget that one of the best things about LED lights is that they consume so little power that you can recycle the AA batts that your camera, GPS or whatever have rejected as low (I try to arrange it so all my battery stuf runs on AAs, so I only need one kind of battery). My stockpile of recyclable AAs is building up because I am still running my lights on the first set of recyles! No way would I put a set of new batts in my lights; I run 'em thru the other elec stuf to break 'em in for the LED lights;)

Okay, here's my newest favorite LED.

It's a tiny little thing just a few inches high. Clips right on my little shelf by the bed. Perfect for reading at night. Doesn't look like it does much, but it's just right when I need a little light.

Neat looking little light, Suz! I'm sure it does the trick when you need a "little" light ;)

Looks like it uses those expensive hard to find "button" batteries, however.

And like Pete, James and others have pointed out, you can install a totally dead "to other devices" battery, such as a AA from your radio, or a 9 volt from your smoke detector ... and still have hours and hours of live left in your LED light, running on the "dead" batteries.

Like Pete ... I have a stockpile of dead batteries ... in the trailer and in my house that are accumulating faster than I can re-use the dead batteries in my various LED lights.

I carry a black magic marker to "mark" a semi-circle around the top of the formerly dead batteries so I can carry them with the fresh batteries and tell, at a glance, which is which.

All I wanted to tell everyone about is the GREAT little, dry camping, nightlight I found.

We've used it for months now.

And I love our PALight.

When you make as many in-the-dark-of-night business runs as I do, you look for ways to light your way!

It does take a couple of Lithium batteries, but I only paid $5.95 for the light (and the batteries) so :shg ... and it was exactly what I needed for there.

I am called the Gadget Guy by a lot of people who know me and now you've got me goin on a whole new thirst. I've just about got my CFO ( Chief Financial Officer) talked into a Honda Generator and now I'm going to have to start sneaking more of these LED lights in. I have a couple already with Head Straps that I dearly love for keeping both hands free. But these look great. I also now want a Car top carrier like yours.

Hey, maybe you need to create a '' Positive Gadget Thread''. Now that would be way good. Think of all the time you would save all of us.

How many years did it take you to run up the five flashlight a day habit?? Looks neat, when you say you can buy then anywhere....where is anywhere, the website list very few dealers.

Keith, I, too, love gadgets.

Problem is, if I compose a complete gadget list, my wife might find the list and figure out how much I spend on some of this stuff.

I admit, I'm sick. But I'm also not ready to seek treatment yet.

As a matter of fact, I'm headed over to East Peoria this morning, taking a little trip to the nearest Harbor Freight ... because I've hear Harbor Freight is selling a neat little flashlight that runs on a single Lithium 123 battery.

And, I've got to have one.

Harbor Freight is way gooooood. Now I have to go there today. There's one about 15 minutes from my house and it's always on my route when I do a ''gadget run''. You know; Sears tool department, Harbor Freight, TJ MAX ( thanks to my Wife), Williams Sonoma, Campers World, Cost Plus World Market, etc, etc.

Yeah, but Keith ... let me warn you, the Harbor Freight flashlight is a Xenon flashlight (not LED) that uses a single 123 Battery (about US$5 a piece at Walmart)(batteries cheaper on the net)(battery not included) and probably only shines for about a half hour per battery.

A 123 battery is a 3-volt lithium battery (sometimes used in digital cameras).

The flashlight is not all that practical to anyone except a flashaholic. (I can recycle my worn out 123 batteries in one of several 123-battery powered LED lights I own.

A flashlight that only lasts a half hour on fresh batteries!

You gotta be kidding me!

Nope, I'm not.

Unlike an LED light, that will burn forever on a worn out set of batteries (well, maybe not forever) ... lights such as the Harbor Freight lights are "put in the trunk of your car with a couple of lithium batteries (10 year shelf life) and then forget them until you have a nighttime emergency and need a brief blast of light."

If you need this type of light, the best one is sold at any Walmart .... a Brinkmann LX flashlight that runs off two (included) lithium 123 batteries.

That sucker is bright as all get out (for about an hour). Ask webmaster Michael about that flashlight I used to light up his Jeep's engine compartment while he looked for the source of his trouble.

The Brinkmann LX at Walmart would probably be a better emergency light that the Harbor Freight light ...

The Brinkmann LX xenon light (at Walmart) will only run for an hour on two 123 batteries ... so you get an hour of intense light for just under $10 of batteries (cheaper, much cheaper on the internet).

Why in the world would you want a light like this?

Well, imagine a pitch dark tire change on a busy highway ... chasing a lost dog or kid into some pitch black woods ... or helping a buddy in the dark, peer into his engine compartment (why do men do that, by the way?)
