Palm Springs vintage trailer show

For anyone near Palm Springs this weekend even if you are far away it will be worth your while to be here. As well as 3of our hc1s here there is also 3 Relics, a cadet, a campster and an absolutely beautiful one of a kind Geographic fg trailer restored to better than new by Flyte Camp. On Saturday the original builder of the Geographic will also be here to talk about the history of the trailer.. this is a once in a lifetime opportunity to see this absolutely astonishing trailer as well as the the other magnificent trailers here fg or not. I’ll try to post tomorrow on any info I get from the show but if there is any possibility to get here you won’t regret it.

Just got back from the vintage show and awards banquet where the fg Geographic took best in show amongst some of the most iconic and meticulously restored trailers in North America.sorry I could not get to speak with the original builder of the Geographic as the large crowds and being busy with the Hc1 display prevented me from talking about the history of the Geographic but I should have more time tomorrow and hope to also post photos.

This is what a $120,000 dollar restoration on a fg trailer looks like

The story I was told by the owner of flyte camp and was mentioned on another thread here was the trailer was listed on eBay by the previous owner who did not know what he had for fairly cheap . It was sitting in his back yard and was used for storage and his son used it as a refuge . It was basically a basket case with the front part of the roof caved in. Shortly after it was listed and with many interested in it ,it became apparent that the owner figured out that the trailer was much more valuable than he thought .flyte camp managed to get there first and negotiated a price but was substantially more than what it was first listed.flyte camp immediately started work on the trailer and literally finished it a couple days before the vintage show even applying final coats of varnish on the way to the show. The inside of the trailer which had originally been finished with ensolight was completely and meticulously recovered in walnut and the floors covered in teak with stainless or aluminum slats running between the boards like you would see on a yaught The trailer is absolutely astounding and the pictures I took really don’t reflect that. This is probably the most valuable trailer in North America that is not in a museum but I suspect it is really the only place that it can be as I would be terrified of all the possible things that could happen to it.

There are only 2 surviving Holiday House Geographics 1 in Europe and 1 in the US . There were attempts to build 7 trailers but 5 ended up as partial builds that were never finished .some of the partial builds were destroyed by fire and some parts were simply lost so there will never be another chance to find one so we can all just forget about it and save our money.

Mod week

Reminding anyone who may be in the Palm Springs area in 2 weeks, feb 23/24 2019 the anuall mod week vintage trailer show will be on again . This is a premium event with some of the best restored trailers as well as some fg trailers on display.Last year we had the incredible Geographic trailer restored by Flyte Camp there but not sure if it will be there this year, but I’m sure Flyte Camp will have something incredible as well as others. This year Happier Camper will also be there with the newest HC1 as well as 2 new prototypes for 2 totally different trailers to be released soon. Hopefully the drenching downpours that have effected the west coast will be gone for that weekend and the show will as great as the last 5 years we’ve been there. Hope to see you there.

That sounds like a lot of fun. We're hanging out in the Yuma area for a couple weeks with the Bonair Oxygen. If we can work it out maybe we can bring it over. What are the particulars? Can you camp, How much to enter, etc.

Hey Steve the vintage trailer show takes place in the Hilton parking lot and is limited in space to some of the major restoration companies such as Flyte Camp , funky junk farms and others as well as manufacturers such as airstream . relic trailers as well as Happier camper. The remaining spaces are usually booked by individual owners well in advance of the event. Your Bonair would look absolutely fantastic there but not sure if any spots are left if you would like I could pm you contact info . The event is open to the paying public and is well worth a visit to see some of the rarest and finest restorations in North America There are also many other mod week events taking place throughout Palm Springs including a classic car show and auction , As we did with the HC1 Happier Camper will introduce their newest models at the show this year . Hope to see you there .
