When they drilled the ice on the poles they found out that the ice ages come in cycles. I guess it's time. It's Mother Nature.

Primarily I wanted to let people to know that a cold winter, and probably more than one is a possibility.

Secondarily I tried to answer people's concerns, principally letting them know the output of the Sun does effect temperature, short term and long term.

Last, I believe we have the ability to deal with reality.

Nothing too big Steve except that there will probably be snow in the woods for the Newfoundland Caravan, hopefully not too much.

Steve, let's remember that the last person living will be the richest EVER. Whether other life forms remain or not.

What will the Chicken Littles do 50 years from now when they realize that none of their predictions came true, that periodic cooling and warming of the earth is a cycle, and that man had nothing to do with it? Probably come up with a newer and even more unsubstantiated theory, make a few movies, get rich, cause a panic and then be proven wrong in another 50 years. Repeat cycle.

Me, I'm going camping.

There's plenty of good climate news though generally the reasons are not well understood:

1, According to satellite data no school child under 18 has seen any global warming.
2. The amount of sea ice has been the same as 1980 for the last 3 years.
3.The USA is experiencing record low hurricane activity. (FL has not seen a hurricane in 9 years, a record.)
4.Tornado activity is well below the historical average.
5. Forest fire activity in terms of acres burned is well less than a third of recent highs.
6. Droughts nationally are down, less frequent and less severe (sorry CA).

That's all pretty good news, of course it's weather. Enjoy it while you can, it can change quickly, get your rig road ready.

Speaking of weather, Ginny was at the hair dresser's today and was speaking with a couple in their 80's who used to go south in the winter but no longer are able to go. This past winter and most winters they are now virtually home bound. Ginny's happy we've decided to solve that problem by making FL our home base, it should be supportive of even older age.

Here's a little fact. We have two sons, one in southern Maine and one in coastal Washington state. This winter the Washington son came for a week. We've been home a couple of months now and in total hours we've seen our Seattle son more than our Maine son. Next year they are both coming to Florida. Moving away doesn't necessarily mean less time together.
