Letter to the Dogs
Dear Dogs,
When I say to move, it means go someplace else, not switch positions with each other so there are still two dogs in the way.
The dishes with the paw print are yours and contain your food. The other dishes are mine and contain my food. Please note, placing a paw print in the middle of my plate and food does not stake a claim for it becoming your food and dish, nor do I find that aesthetically pleasing in the slightest.
The stairway was not designed by Nascar and is not a racetrack. Beating me to the bottom is not the object. Tripping me does not help, because I fall faster than you can run.
I cannot buy anything bigger than a king size bed. I am very sorry about this. Do not think I will continue to sleep on the couch to ensure your comfort. Look at videos of dogs sleeping; they can actually curl up in a ball. It is not necessary to sleep perpendicular to each other stretched out to the fullest extent possible. I also know that sticking tails straight out and having tongues hanging out the other end to maximize space used is nothing but doggy sarcasm.
My compact discs are not miniature Frisbees.
For the last time, there is not a secret exit from the bathroom. If by some miracle I beat you there and manage to get the door shut, it is not necessary to claw, whine, and try to turn the knob, or get your paw under the edge and try to pull the door open. I must exit through the same door I entered. In addition, I have been using bathrooms for years, canine attendance is not mandatory.
The proper order is kiss me, then go smell the other dog's butt. I cannot stress this enough. It would be such a simple change for you.
Rules for non-pet owners who visit and like to complain about our pets: :wave
1. The dog lives here. You do not.
2. If you don't want dog hair on your clothes, stay off the furniture. 3. I like my dog a lot better than I like most people. 4. To you, she's (he's) a dog. To me, she's (he's) an adopted daughter/son who is short, hairy, walks on all fours and does not speak clearly. 5. Dogs are better than kids. They eat less, don't ask for money all the time, are easier to train, usually come when called, never drive your car, their parents don't visit, don't hang out with drug-using friends, don't smoke or drink, don't worry about buying the latest fashions, don't wear your clothes, don't need a Gazillion dollars for college, and if they get pregnant, you can sell the pups.

:wave Hello, Girls!
Welcome aboard.
My Rusty is also a Belgian Malinois Mix. He adopted me when I went and visited a rescue group.
He's probably mixed with Golden Retriever because of his coloring (no black), but he definitely has the features and the personality of a Malinois.

A dog's life
And aren't Belgian Malinois really different? Incredibly focused (now I know why PD use them in bomb sniffing and such) and that circular bent trot when coming back. None of my GShepherds EVER tried to herd cows from the back seat. And that thing about barking dogs never bite - it's true - when she doesn't bark, LOOK OUT - she's stalking (very quietly). Very agile and athletic. I'd trust her with a baby (my 2 year old Godson) - she's a babysitter and adjusts herself to their size. She's a piece of work!! :)

sheepdog trialing
Hi,
I have been a lurker on this list for awile. Thought it time I said hello.
I have a '78 Trillium 4500 that I purchased about 2 years ago. I have border collie dogs and compete in sheepdog trials mainly here in the Pacific Northwest.
After expensive motel rooms, leaky tents (it does rain here) and the pickup bed, I was lucky enough to snare a Trillium.
"Trilly" is the envey of many a dog trialer and always seems to draw a curious crowd at every trial as you all could imagine.
I have had quite a few adventures with it.
Here is a picture of one of my dogs (Bill) competing at a trial.

Thank You, Bonnie. that is a great picture of a great dog. I think we have at least two others that do dog shows. Not quite the same things, but - well it includes dogs :)

trilly adventures
Thanks for the welcome,
I imagine I have to start a new thread about that if I go into too much detail.
Biggest adventure---
Last year I lived full time in the Trillium with 5 dogs for a couple of months--dead of winter when I had problems with a roomate and I moved out of the rental house we shared. Wow! That was a bit much.
Since then I have purchased my own home--and Trilly a Costco canopy. :reye2
Here is my Trillium...

Dogs
Great picture, and welcome. I LOVE working dogs. If I had a dream, I think I would be in search and rescue. When we were in England, we stayed at a working sheep farm that raised Borders for herding, and they had just had puppies. Theirs were the champions in the area. It was the highlight of my trip. I need to do more of that. Do you have any good links for trials? And flyball, well, that is WAY cool. The first time i saw that, I thought the dogs were all going to come back looking like Boston Terriers! They hit that board hard! Keep us posted, and yes, tell stories.

Such pretty kitties and doggies!
I love looking at everyone else's companions. I got Blackjack for search and rescue and we trained in it for a year and a half. I had to quit for foot surgery and needed something to keep us working together - flyball! Leaving for Binbrook in Ontario tomorrow night to compete in a tournament with several of the fastest teams in the world. 'Course we're racing their sixth string! Our tournaments have 10-15 teams - these guys have 85 teams coming:crazy-ii ! Poor Scamp has to stay home :sad - 7 people and 11 dogs. For our next trick we want to try dock diving but it doesn't seem to be around here yet. Don't think BJ would like herding - he'd probably try to play with the little sheepssies!

Red Niklas
This is my traveling companion most of the time....
He's really not a sissy, despite the ribbon.

working dogs
Hi Deb,
I agree..it is sure fun to see everyone's different travel companions.
There is a couple who travel to the sheepdog trials (alas..in a stick built) who have taken a small monkey with them for years.
Only recently has the monkey become too agressive towards strangers and has to stay home. She got replaced by a rat terrier!
If you are interested in herding trials, here is a site to get you started.

Thanks Bonnie
I will have to look into that. I helped videotape some Police Dog field trials in '88 when they were in St. Cloud, and I loved it. So much that I quit my job to do it (wasnt a very good one, so it was a good excuse). I guess I fell in love with it then. And it was a blast. I have great respect for working dogs of any kind. They love to work more then anything. (A bit like my husband, insane as that is.:wak )I try to get in as much "dog stuff" while on vacation as possible.
Speaking of, has anyone been to the dog museum in St. Louis? I want to go, but why does it have to be in ST. LOUIS? Or how about the war dog museum in Riverside CA.? I almost made it there the last time I was there, but ran out of time.
