LOL When I first heard that clip a few weeks back I rolled on the floor laughing. Yup just direct the deer! Due to people totally ignoring deer crossing warning signs the sign maker in the District I live tries to be creative and put a little humour into the signs in the district in hopes people actually read them.

Here are a few examples of his work regarding deer crossing signs.

Here are a few more examples of his sign work in regards to other common issues.

I truly fear for the future of our society! And I wonder how she'll pick her candidate in the presidential election. Who will put "moving deer crossing signs" high up on their agenda first?

An old, OLD joke...yes, I think she must have been "pulling the leg" of the radio people. Either that or some "friend" of hers, recognizing her gullibility, put her up to making the call.

I think we need to train the deer to push the button so the orange light flashes at the crossing area. Then the drivers can be held responsible.

And yes, we have deer in the big city.

This is not so far fetched. OK, they don't push the button, but in northern Ontario they have sections of highway that have IR light curtains on poles with amber beacons on top. I have not seen them work, but I assume that as the dear cross the light curtain, the amber beacons come on. Thus warning motorist of deer near the road. It probably freaks out the deer too.

We too have deer in our neighborhood, in Calgary. One day there were five of them at the end of our driveway. Also fox, coyotes, skunk, and beaver near the river.

Frederick I dont think they do but a number of other districts and cities around the world have copied them. The District doesnt mind people copying them in fact they see it as a form of flattery that others agree that their idea of using humor to get people to read signs actually works.

The sign shop is a pretty busy creative place. The staff try also to come up with a unique sign for the entrance to each park and neighbourhood.

The "No Barking" sign is one they make a fair number of due to having creeks or rivers running through most of our parks so we have a large number of popular doggy swimming holes due to our liberal off leash rules in most our parks. We also have a few designated doggy beaches as well. The four legged citizens of the community can be just as loud as the young skate boarders when having fun at the park or beach.

David your right it can be done and in BC we have miles of fences along many of the mountain pass highways with animal crossing tunnels built under the highway. But like you we also have lots of wildlife coming into the urban areas daily so expropriating peoples homes to build underpasses every few blocks or to build a big fence in front of their homes would not go over to well with some folks

I can remember when deer whistles were supposed to warn deer against crossing. Caused a lot of confusion. Take my wife for instance. She couldn't decide where to attach the whistles to the deer.
