Question Pros and Cons

Was wondering what Scamp 5th wheel owners liked or disliked about their
trailers as we are considering buying one. Also what kind of mileage are you getting? Thanks for any replies.

We lover ours. We moved up from a 13' to a 19'. Both new. We contemplated the 16' but for the money went up to the 19' because we knew we would be living in it for an extended time. The Scamp went with us to Wisconsin last Spring, took us through summer and is now in North Dakota soon to come home. Gas mileage? You are pulling a trailer. The 5ver goes down the road behind the Tundra and that's the advantage of pulling a fiberglass.

We love ours. Have only used it 4 times but we have not found any problems. We have now decided we are taking it to Alaska next year.

Hi: Alan Ursacki...I realize our 5.0 isn't a Scamp but I can tell you that we get 19.6 mpg towing our Escape/Nissan combo. We haven't done to much mountain climbing with the new tug but it sure is a nice truck!!!

Hello Alf S
First I should say sorry to all as I should have asked all 5th wheel owners.
Alf isn't your trailer heavier than the Scamp? If so your mpg is pretty darn good. Always like to hear first hand from someone who owns type of item
asking about. Thank You.

Hi: Alan Ursacki... Over on pg.5 of trailer weights in the real world are our weigh scale figures. Only thing mising was the food/beverage in the fridge.
3680#'s gross. 2860#'s axle wt. = 780#'s pin wt. I'm happy with all figures but you must know that our Imp. Gal. is larger in Canada. 4.54 L./vs. U.S. Gal. 3.89L. In that case my U.S. mpg's are around 16.5. That's still double the 8mpg the rig beside us gets!!!

We've had our Scamp 5'r a year & 1/2 & have towed it about 25,000 miles. We are VERY happy. With a Nissan Frontier 6 cyl we average 17 mpg. We have the deluxe model with the larger fridge, & the floor plan is absolutely perfect. We like the separation between the sleeping & living areas, can even watch 2 different tv shows. A treat for us since we are too thrifty to pay for cable at home, but usually have it while traveling. No "TRUTV vs HGTV" arguments. The Scamp tows like a dream, & is very comfortable & practical. No real problems except the gasket in the toilet failed, but I could have been overgenerous with the use of chemicals. I promise to do better. I wish the entire bathroom was fiberglass. We are diligent in wiping it down & airing it out after showering, but we still got a spot of mold while spending a month in humid FL. Bleach & mold spray solved that. I recommend you go for it. We love ours.
Just returned from 28 days, 5,997 miles, PA to Yellowstone, marvelous trip & the Scamp was a perfect home. Can't wait for the next adventure.

When we looked at the Scamp fifth-wheel, we discovered the bed was somewhat smaller than advertised (too small for us). That was a few years ago. Be sure to see one before you decide. If it fits you, it should be a great trailer. We recently bought an Escape fifth-wheel and we love it.

Hi: Cyndi B... I tow right around our 100kph. That's 62mph. south of the border. I rarely exceed the speed limit but sometimes...I'm stopped...or get passed so much I feel like I'll never get home!!!
