This was such a Duh moment when I saw this demo. I actually ran across this a couple of times lately. And though I haven't had to do this lately, I decided to keep the info for future use and to pass along for those who have struggled sqeeeeeeeeezing cushion foam back into a cushion cover!
Duh!!!!!!!!! Why didn't I think of this? http:// Cushion covers, foam the easy way!

Put the foam in a thin plastic bag (large garbage bag or drycleaner bag)and close the end around the nozzle of a vacuum cleaner. The vacuum cleaner will collapse the foam and allow easy installation.
Scamp does this at the factory.

Here are a couple of links to videos:
Shrinking Cushion foam! - YouTube
I just googled: Cushion covers, foam the easy way! and several youtube options came up.
The process is cool and apparently you don't have to seal the cushion in the plastic, just wrap it so that it fully covered with generous overlap of the plastic.
Fun!

Thanks Fran, sorry my link didn't work. But yes that is it! I have heard of wraping in plastic but it was still a struggle to get it back in the cover. This is a no brainer, makes it so easy! Thanks again!

Wish they would have showed it from the side that the vacuum went in. I don't understand what she meant by making a hole in the dacron.

Laura, not sure what your talking about, but the first thing that came to mind for me, was to use a cheap thin trash sack. Pull it all together and suck out the air. Once you let loose of the gathered trash bag, it's gonna fill the foam back with air so you gotta work quickly. But so much easier than trying to shove the foam back in full sized.

I tried to include this video in my earlier post - somehow it got over written by the other one. It is a bit more thorough and I think it covers the project better. Yes, you do remove the plastic after the cover is on.
Sometimes real upholstered cushions have a batting around them of dacron - i thinmk that's what they referred to on the first video.

Oh I thought about that Roger, but figured it was worth putting the info out if it saved even one DIY-er from frustration!

But I would lose that feeling of victory over adversity if it were easy to do. Seeing that piece of foam jammed all sideways and lumpy into the cover and knowing I PUT IT THERE WITHOUT HELP is special.

Fran, thanks for posting that video. It really helped to see it from the other side. Next time I have to do this I will try it this way.

You're welcome - I thought it was the better demonstration. And apparently that's how the pro's do it! I'll definitely use that technique when I need to put cushion covers back on!
