Removed the stinky slinky tube

Here are the before and after...never did gel coat before...but hey ..I'm not the sharpest tool in the shed..and I have seen dull tools do it..so I said why not

I don't like how the hose tube will yellow (and collect dirt) on the front of the camper....so I took it off. I never did any type of fiberglass before..but I have patched drywall ..and have frosted cakes before ...so how much different can it be...drilled off the head of the rivet...removed the tube holder..scraped off the caulk...cleaned with acetone...filled holes with a marine epoxy patch....ground surface so gel coat would adhere....filled....sanded...wet sanded with 2000 grit...

Those tubes are just flat Fugly. IMHO one of the worst decisions Scamp has ever made and they've done it for years. Like THAT thing should be some focal point of beauty?

I removed mine as well a number of years ago for the following reasons:

1) Its UGLY
2) Dysfunctional - not large enough to hold the hose and fittings

I put a square fence post with end caps on hinges, under the trailer and it takes a long hose with the attachments on it.

BTW if you want to keep the removal of the old hose holder real simple you can simple fill the holes left with rivet and snap cap. Use some 3M marine compound to shine up the area behind where the tube was (it will be discoloured due to lack of cleaning waxing behind the tube) to clean up the area and your done.

Carol, how did you attached your fence post to bottom of trailer? I like this idea as I've been storing my stinky slinky in the Scamp's original holder in the bathroom while traveling...the hose holder was removed by my trailer's original owner.

M Scott, If you google: RV sewer hose storage you will discover dozens of do it yourself sewer hose installations and projects including material lists. This will be my next project using some of the methods I discovered when I googled the topic. The 5"X5" white PVC hollow fence post looked like the best way to go as it has enough room to fit the hose and the connectors. The round PVC pipe comes in 4" and cannot fit the connectors just the hose.

Ooh! Sounds like removing the PVC pipe and installing the storage underneath the trailer is a great way to go! We've just been putting our hose/attachments in a plastic covered container and carrying it in our minivan. Really like the idea of eliminating that "nasty thing" in the car.!

Some folks use metal strapping or very large hose clamps but I just used 6 large heavy zip ties. Slipped them between the closest metal frame cross member and the trailers floor. Its all pretty light and its been on for a number of years now - 1000's of miles and its not moved an inch. It holds 15' of Rhino flex hose and attachments with room for gloves and a box of handy wipes.
