We normally park in the truck / trailer area for short breaks and overnights. the pull through spots make it super easy and overnights with others who over night in rest stops regularly feels a bit safer, than on the car side. You just need to watch out for those freezer trucks... unless you need something to drown out the interstate.

I park with the trucks.
But I'd feel less comfortable at night parked in any rest stop to sleep.
