Shhhh Alice...don't give away our secrets! Thank you for all the compliments though and those of us that live here, appreciate guests that also appreciate the natural beauty of the Pacific Northwest.
Butterflies are almost non-existant in the Portland area. The only reason I can think of is we have some sort of wind nearly every day. Either coming in from the Pacific ocean or blowing down the Columbia River Gorge from the east. That wind also keeps mosquitoes away...so it's a good thing. If you saw people camping, did you notice the lack of screen rooms? We don't need screen rooms here....slugs don't fly!
Come back and enjoy the area again Alice. Next time bring the trailer and camp with some great people at the Oregon Gathering
