When we bought our Casita last year I also purchased a set of the Rock Tamer mud flaps that fit over the hitch. Knowing that I was going to take it on a long trip this month I decided to check out the gas mileage with and without the Rock Tamers. Final count.

894 miles going down to the coast with Rock Tamers: 12 mpg.
946 miles coming back without Rock Tamers: 14 mpg.

Driving 60 miles per hour.

So, is the protection worth the lose of 2 mpg?

I used the Rock Tamers for the first time this spring. I didn't notice any milage effect. Might vary with tow/trailer combination.
