Thumbs up

Does anyone know which manufacturers offer models without bathrooms but can include bunk beds instead? We know Casita does, but would like to know if other options exist out there. Here's what we're interested in:
  • At like at least a true full-size bed for my husband and I
  • Separate eating area in addition to the dinette/bed (so we just leave our bed down all the time - yeah, we're lazy)
  • Max storage (full closets are great)
  • We can tow up to 5200 lbs - so anything including the desired specs but not too long (20' max length) would be great.

Check out the Escape website with their floor plans. They are also able to do amazing things with custom builds. If you want something done and Reace thinks it's possible he'll do it. Great company to work with.

Scamps can be ordered without a bathroom and with bunks, yes. http://www.scamptrailers.com/Showroom/16Tr...FloorPlans.aspx

To get these other things:

You might get close to them, but full sized bed, and closets in a very small space, I am not so sure. But maybe close in a Custom Deluxe, wood interior Scamp which I believe can be more special ordered. http://www.scamptrailers.com/Showroom/Delu...dInteriors.aspx and http://www.eggcamper.com/

16' may just be too small to get all your I wants. Maybe if you do not need a stove for cooking.

Egg Campers are roomy....maybe one would work...not sure about bunks....side dinette, yes. If they would make the bath into a closet...???? http://www.eggcamper.com/floor%20plan.htm

The side or front dinettes will all make into a bunk, but not bunks.

There are some small non-molded fiberglass trailers as well. The Fun Finder X are one and I have also seen 7' wide trailers Cikira. There would be more of these hybrids out there I would think.
http://www.cruiserrv.com/fun-finder-x/mode...ifications.html

A little larger TTs, the Lance , the new one at 20'9" looks good, and the 19'10" Bullet by Keystone is another example. Bullet Not sure about towing weights. http://keystonerv-bullet.com/index.php?pag...mp;model=180FBS and http://www.lancecamper.com/travel-tr...685/index.html

Small and Retro Serro Scotty

A 17' 4" travel trailer with a Queensized bed, large holding tanks and large fresh water tank Palomino Gazelle G-150 or http://www.palominorv.com/site/default.asp...;series=Gazelle

The Dutchmen Eco 718QB seems to be a neat unit as well. http://www.americanrv.biz/rv/dutchmen/trav...chmen_Eco_718QB

Another neat Floor Plan. The 2010 KZ Sportsmen Classic 16BH. It might be nice to have bunk beds, even for a retired couple.

There was one of the new Escapes at Bullard's beach year before last that had a permanent bed and separate cooking area and dining table. It was a very nice floor plan. I don't remember the length for sure or who's it was, but I think it was 15 or 17 feet.

Thanks to you all for your thoughts! I do feel a bit sheepish about asking since we just got a 16' Casita in April, but have been pretty irritated with the construction in just a few months of traveling (three rivets popped already - can't believe they'd build an egg and then puncture holes all the way through, isn't that like putting holes in a boat?!). We really love the captains chairs and small table, however, and the kids are happy they each have their own "space" on the bunks to sprawl toys (and themselves somewhere!). Probably enough to keep the trailer unless a better quality setup can be found.

I'd be curious to hear how well the light-weight aluminum travel trailers (e.g., Flagstaff, etc.) without popout sections hold up and quality of construction, and if any companies will customize by removing the bathroom in favor of closets/storage, or even simply keeping that area open. My husband could (eventually) integrate whatever we need (get chairs, tables, add a closet, etc.).

Here's what we have in mind for either 17' or 19' Escape options - and certainly flexible depending on where the fridge and stove need to be situated. Just not sure what's feasible. We'd even be willing to simply leave parts of the camper empty on order and then build what we need in the space.

Casita uses rivets to protect the fiberglass when/if it flexes. There's been lots of discussion on the pros and cons of doing it - check out the topic Replacing pop rivets in a Scamp for more info (and more links to other discussions on the subject!)

Thanks Mary. We've reviewed the problems and solutions, and still need to contact Casita for a bag of replacement rivets (since there will inevitably be more to replace).
