For those of you who know Nancie and Chuck Hajek, we have sad news to tell you about Nancie.
We were camping at Lake Piru last week, and on Friday morning (Aug 24), Nancie suffered a heart attack and we lost that fine lady. Even though Jim and I have only known Nancie for about a year, she will be greatly missed by us and many others.
Nancie was doing well during the first two days at Lake Piru and didn't show any signs of medical problems. We played sequence the night before and they went to their trailer about 11:00. About 4:15 AM Chuck came to our trailer to tell us about Nancie. While we stayed with her, Chuck went to use the pay phone to call 911 - cell phones do not work at Lake Piru.
Chuck knew where the pay phones were, Nancie had her address book with her, and all this helped but not enough for Nancie.
We have learned a lesson in being prepared. We will make sure important people in our lives know where we are, check where the pay phones are in the campground, have emergency numbers handy, and keep relatives and important phone numbers in a good place in the trailer.
Chuck is doing the best he can during this rough time. If you remember, it was just a couple of months ago that Chuck and Nancie were on a trip and rolled their truck and
Casita, totalling both truck and trailer. This Lake Piru trip was their first trip with their replacement truck and
Casita.
