I considered it, but chose to do the one in New Brunswick instead. Then from there through Quebec and on to a family gathering North of Barry, Ont.

Dave, Ginny and I will be able to dream next weekend.
Don't forget Gros Morne.

Walt,

We love Gros Morne, Over the years we've probably spent two months there. One could live there very easily. Last visit if allowed to be impulse I'd have been happy to buy a little home there.

Norm and Ginny have spoken enthusiastically about their trips to NL and I've been envious. Even though I lived in Boston for 6 years I never ventured there. I now live in my home state of California and would still love to go to NL but I don't want to travel cross-country in the trailer. If possible, I would join a group by camping in a tent, renting a small camper, renting a cabin where available or motel camp. Soooo, keep me posted.

It's interesting that you posted about caravaning as I was just going to ask if anyone wants to caravan to and through Alaska next spring/summer from California and beyond? I'll start a new thread to ask.

Dinner with Dave

Scouter Dave is coming for dinner tonight, a good opportunity for us to discuss a potential Newfoundland Caravan in 2016 and find out in more detail what he's thinking. Dave is called Scouter Dave because he's into scouting and he loves the outdoors.

You should recognize that going to Newfoundland is a big trip. To give you an idea of the distance involved, to get to the ferry in North Sydney, Nova Scotia is a 800 mile trip from Boston. To put that in perspective a drive from the ferry landing in Newfoundland to Newfoundland's only real city is 540 miles.

Ginny and I will be going to Newfoundland next spring. We always see Dave at the music festival in Gros Morne, that could be a reasonable starting point for a caravan, since Gros Morne is on everyone's must list. (Gros Morne is a day or two from the ferry depending on your schedule - about 180 miles.)

A Newfoundland trip requires a ferry ride from Nova Scotia, last trip it was $500 round trip for our CRV and Scamp. As a result we usually stay for 2 months to spread the cost out.

I recognize that 2 months may be too long for most so I thought it might be interesting to get a feel for how long you might be interested in staying. Of course anyone can break it off, come early, and/or stay late.

It's possible to create a little list of potential side trips on the way to the ferry in Nova Scotia, New Brunswick for before or after the Caravan time. Maritime Canada is really beautiful, really much to see and do.

Would love to join you Norm but we have two weddings in ON in Aug-Sep so could not go east in May. We still have yet to see PEI long on our bucket list.

If for some reason this doesnt happen in 2016 we could join you in 2017!

Adrian

Scouter Dave came for dinner, really he’s a very intriguing and comforting individual, a true treat. I always get a kick out of people who stimulate your thinking and leave you with the feeling that you can be doing more.

We talked about a potential caravan up the west coast of Newfoundland with Gros Morne, a Music Festival and the many sights of Newfoundland’s west coast. We agreed to create a tour that focuses on the unique qualities of the rock and it’s people. As well as suggesting a number of side trips to allow you to extend your trip.

There will be no charge for the trip or it’s organization however we will provide you with a rough estimate of your expenses, suggestions for travel routes and stops to Newfoundland, attempting to make the trip as easy as possible.

I am going to take information off the forum and provide each person who expressed an interest with an outline of the trip directly instead of using the forum as a communication path with individuals. I will send each person a PM with my direct email address. If you are interested send me your email address and I’ll keep you informed.

Newfoundland is a different kind of place, for me a stress-less place, a safe place, a simpler place.

West coast tour

Hi Norm,
Tess and I had a great time at TTT this year. We thank you for posting about the music a year or so ago. We are leaning heavily in favor of joining this tour in 2016 if you have room.

Steve,

First glad you had a good time at TTT. I personally feel bad that we were not there but getting the house ready to sell was a priority.

Second I'll add your name tot he distribution list. If you have any suggestions don't hesitate to let me know.

Presently I have 9 rigs on the potential list. I'm sure they all won't be able to make it so there's plenty of room and that goes for others with an interest.

Look forward to meeting you.

The Newfoundland magnetism is very strong...for a while we were thinking of making a dash over there this spring to see the icebergs we were too late to see last year. Instead we made a trip to Maine coast and said maybe next spring. Dave knows.

Eleven and counting

We now have a list of 11 fiberglass trailers for our 2016 Newfoundland Caravan. It's all pretty exciting, just thinking about it.

Potential Members are sending in information about themselves, rig, tow vehicle, number of people, pets.... and interests.

Dave and I talked about timing and a potential itinerary along with a bunch of side trips that could be taken alone or in smaller groups.. We're trying to be flexible with the plan, even to the point where people could join along the way depending on their schedules.

We hope to create a tips list, and clothing suggestions. To this point we're considering a spring trip.

We're wide open to suggestions, questions or new members...
