When I was a kid, and I'm not youngster, my mother tried to plan a BBQ and picnic on July 4th in the Denver area... it snowed... so we had s'mores and oven/broiler created hamburgers instead.

Hummm I am going to guess they only record it as having actually snowed if the ground is cold enough to allow it to accumulate so it can be measured. I worked summers as a teen at a horse ranch just outside of Calgary and I recall one day in July when what I would call slushy snow coming down hard. Although I may be old I assure you it wasn't in 1918 either Suspect there are few long time Calgarian's here who have seen the slush coming down in summer months before as well.

Snow in Yellowstone
Woke up to snow at Fishing Bridge RV Park in Yellowstone this morning.
Flurried all the way into the Tetons where we were greeted by some very nicely dressed mountain peaks.

We have about 3 inches of wet sloppy snow here in Casper Wy this evening.
My Dad used to say "We have winter and July 4th, and sometimes it snows during the fireworks"

Don't know about that climate change stuff. We just call it weather.

Polar Vortex was the buzz phrase last year, I got a feeling they are not done with it yet.
The good piece in the news yesterday was that all the efforts on banning CFC's in spray cans is working, the Ozone layer is reported to be on the mend.

Yeah, there were a few tree lined streets that were impassible until the city cleared all the folial carnage. LOTS of downed branches on the deciduous trees. Heck, they were nowhere near turning colour yet either.

Years ago a co-worker quit his job in MI. He had enough of winter weather. We asked him where he was going? He said he was going to put an ice scraper in his shirt pocket, and a snow shovel over his shoulder, and head south. When someone asked him "What are those?", he would find a home nearby and live there. He ended up in S.Carolina.

The Butter's Hard
There are lots of ways to measure temperature.
While Ginny cooks the eggs and bacon, I make make the toast and butter it. This morning the butter was hard, a sign that summer is gone.
For the first time since returning home in the spring I turned the furnace on, mainly as a test.
It definitely feels like summer is gone.
